This sorry Arsenal side doesn’t deserve to come fourth
WE simply don’t try hard enough.
I simply don’t believe that at the end of a game those guys ache like they should. I don’t believe that they emerge with the same scars on their bodies as the Everton and Villa players who fight for everything.
Today the handbrake wasn’t so much on as pulled right up. Sure, we had the chances to win it when RVP clipped wide in the first half and Vela dragged a shot past the post in the second.
But we never went for it. We never flew into tackles and we lacked any sense of urgency. That we got to half-time at 0-0 seemed barely to bother us. We have scored a pathetic one first half goal in seven league games.
At the heart of our problem is the central midfield whose poverty is like a cancer on our entire team.
I include Denilson and Song in the players who lack urgency but I don’t blame them for not being good enough. The blame for that lies with the manager as does the fact a player with the attitude of Eboue is at the club.
It just can’t be right.
The frustrating thing is that the catastrophe of midfield was so predictable back in August. And the fact we don’t try hard enough is just unbelievable.

21 February 2009 at 7:29 pm
This sorry blog doesnt deserve any readers…
21 February 2009 at 7:31 pm
Good written article, but you are talking to a deaf manager who is not under any illusion or pressure to perform. Instead of blaming his poor players, he always attack the opposing team for one reason or the other. Shame to wenger and his poor team for causing millions of fans heart ache.
21 February 2009 at 7:31 pm
Sorry, I was harsh then, I feel your pain brother! Just feel that there’s little to be gained from continually going over the paucity of the central midfield… Coz I knew back in the summer we would struggle thanks the the fact we never replaced players, never mind actually effin strengthen the squad!
21 February 2009 at 7:32 pm
Hilarious.
21 February 2009 at 7:34 pm
We were very toothless today. I totally agree with you Goodplaya. I would have liked to have seen Ramsay get a start. Craven performance especially second half which was as poor a half as i have seen for a while.
21 February 2009 at 7:41 pm
Are you mocking me goodfella? You git!
21 February 2009 at 7:43 pm
Wenger needs to go i dont care what any one says if he thinks were going places with this bunch he must be on the verge of the nutty house!!!!!
21 February 2009 at 7:47 pm
Surprised at this one goodplaya. You’ve always resisted the easy digs and facile analysis. And it’s very, very easy to say a team doesn’t “work hard enough” when things don’t go the way you want. I don’t think it’s remotely true that our midfielders aren’t trying. I think they’re not as good as we wish they were, but it’s not for lack of effort. Was vela not trying hard enough to score? Was that really his problem? Silly. One of the few times I think you’ve just got it wrong.
Ps. Saying we don’t “deserve” a particular placing is moronic. We will end up with exactly what placing we deserve, no more, no less.
21 February 2009 at 7:56 pm
we are being led into a very DARK place by a manager who i believe has not a clue about what he is doing and is too proud too ask for help (unlike fergie )luckily for us he was not at the club 10 or 12 yrs earlier or the likes of ADAMS, KEOWN, PARLOUR, SEAMEN, DIXON WINTERBURN AND THE REST would of been turfed out very early in their careers
21 February 2009 at 8:02 pm
Sorrry….cant bendtner go before anyone else?I cant understand why we still keep rubbish?it’s just a nightmare….no champions league spot…no premeirship title…nothing nothing nothing…but i guess we building a team for the future of a trophy…less cabinet yet again…
21 February 2009 at 8:04 pm
It wasn’t a horrific performance by most. We had enough chances to score at least one which would have meant the game would have opened up. I do think that Song and Denilson are too scared to get forward and Song just isn’t good enough on the ball at the moment. It’s pretty sad when I wished that Diaby was playing. Arshavin clearly wasn’t match fit and Sagna didn’t have the best of games. His crosses were diabolical, but no one gets into the box anyway, so it really doesn’t matter.
It would be one thing if Bendtner, RVP and Denilson were in the box, but none of them are, so it’s just an excercise in giving the ball away and then when we did have clear chances to test the keeper, we shot straight at him or wide.
21 February 2009 at 8:06 pm
are you guys crazy? is arsenal playing this season?
arsenal does not exist this season…
the team we actually seen this season is from the land of SODs(state of denials), somewhere in France
the proud man behind this team is himself an SOD guy for telling lies every week… blaming everyone except himself
so are you guys ready to knwo the real name of the tema playing this season?
AssAnal is the name of the team… starting next season, arsenal will no longer exist…. arsenal is a big team playing beautiful football, scoring tons of goals
to celebrate our memories of finishing sith this season, the meangement has decided to name the team AssAnal in memory and honoured of arsene wenger
this team suck big time, playing like an asshole, everyone of them!
21 February 2009 at 8:20 pm
Wish Eduardo didn’t get injured. Does anyone know how many games Bendtner has started vs How many times he has scored the 1st goal?
With teams coming here to sit back its such a vital goal. It takes courage, composure and balls to get it, Bendtner seems to be lacking.
21 February 2009 at 8:22 pm
Goodplaya, I felt the same frustrations myself. watching Bendtner refuse to put any effort into chasing down balls (the opposite of his attitude against Cardiff), Song strolling around and always going for the little insipid ball sideways and even Almunia and Clichy slowing the game down and letting Sunderland reorganise….there was no urgency, no sense of the team wanting to catch Villa. I don’t think Denilson had a bad game, but Bendtner is still an impact sub for me, Song is the sort of player you bring on at 2-0 up to slow the game down and Eboue….it’s got to the stage where even his gait and posture annoy me. Even with Cesc, theo and Eduardo back….it’s going to be a bloody long struggle unless the team pull every single finger that they, as a squad posses out.
Arshavin looked good though; nice to have someone other than RvP not afraid to shoot
21 February 2009 at 8:27 pm
i’m sorry guys but we’re destined for the UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE next season! if we can’t win when when chelsea and villa are playing…..we aint gonna catch up.
sorry for the negative view but it’s hard to be upbeat, i don’t see mr reliables attacking to call upon like henry bergkamp and pires, who got us out of this 3years ago.
21 February 2009 at 8:29 pm
It is time to Wenger to go. He has had a good run with the club, but is now the reason why the club is declining fast.
Arsenal is the only top team to have gotten worst since last year and that is the responsibility of the manager. Next year we will no longer be a top team and will lose our best players. The only way to stop this decline is to replace AW and send the message that Arsenal has ambitions that go beyond selecting players with potential.
21 February 2009 at 8:30 pm
How can the board expect us to renew our expensive season tickets in the middle of a global recession when we see football like this? This team is not good enough. It just isn’t. There is not one player that I would come to see. Do you remember Bergkamp and Henry? Petit, Vieira, Overmars and Pires? Now that was a team. We are watching the worst team that I have ever seen under AW’s reign because he has no money to buy the quality we need. I say sack the board, bring back Dein and Usmanov or Dein and Kroenke, buy some top quality players and lets get back to where we should be. Not fighting for top 4 but fighting for 1st Place. If Man U win their game in hand we are 17 points behind them in March….. SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG WITH THE ARSENAL AND IT MUST BE FIXED!!!!!!!!!
21 February 2009 at 8:31 pm
Arsenal = AssAnal = As_Sa_Nal
21 February 2009 at 8:32 pm
I’m so bored of watching Arsenal…they need fresh ideas…this project is dead
21 February 2009 at 8:39 pm
assanal,
you are so very clever and witty.
21 February 2009 at 8:45 pm
Well said Goodplaya. The dissapointing thing is that these same players will run rings around Roma on Tuesday. Arshavin who’s only been here 5 minutes showed more urgency than all our players. Is it because he didnt have Roma in mid-week to worry about? I feel sorry for the lad who finally got his big break and joins a big team, well its UEFA Cup next season Andrey!
I could name 20 CM who are better than Song and Denilson who wouldnt even make the bench at UTD, Liverpool and Chelsea.
It will be a long 5-6 weeks untill we have Fabregas back. Its all in the hands of Villa now they need to go on a really bad run, get some injuries for us to make the 6 point gap. Chelsea are too far ahead now with a much easier run in as theyve already played Villa, Utd and Liverpool home and away
21 February 2009 at 8:45 pm
i will not blame RVP if he leaves in the summer because this team is going nowhere , i think vela deserved a start today after the cardiff game , nasri should have played in the centre , we only come alive in the last ten minutes of games when the players sense they cant pass thru the middle of teams , it looks like the euro cup for us now , and yeah we dont deserve to come 4th
21 February 2009 at 8:46 pm
The things that makes me laugh are all the gooners who are sucked in by wenger his tatics are shite 442 451 i have not seen anything else in his hole time as manager poor very poor u eyes are only going to open when relegation is near by .
Song helped in charlton’s relegation from the top flight but he is good enough for our first team it is taking the piss!!!!
21 February 2009 at 8:47 pm
Bored_booner my sentiments exactly, this project is dead!
21 February 2009 at 8:50 pm
your thoughts are spot-on playa. Performance today was toothless and w/ no urgency at all. I don;t see what wenger sees in these players. Arshavin was the only bright spot in the early few moments of the game.
“our attitude was spot on” - was it? we never bothered sunderland and its sad state of affairs when wenger continues to blame the opposition and does not address the problem at hand. We all know teams will pack the midfield, defend and be happy with a draw; a manager paid as much as him needs to figure out the solution and win.
I think its about time we question the manager and his tactics. He has done wonders for this club and i would love it, absolutely love it, if he turns it around but this season we have regressed. Its been about the next season for 4 years running now…how long?
21 February 2009 at 8:51 pm
I think the main problem is a lack of belief. These players just don’t believe they will score or have the confidence to really go at teams.
What strikes me more than anything is the speed of attacks and how we move quickly out of defence, over the half way line get to the middle of the opponents half then stop and go sideways or backwards.
There was a time when we would score 11 seconds after defending a corner, when was the last time we saw a fast flowing counter attack or just a fast attack in general.
I am not normally one to criticise our players but surely Song just isn’t up to the job? ! It seems it is he that slows everything down and it would be nice to see Nasri go for the byline occasionally as opposed to coming inside every time. I would rather (Wait for the hatred to fly) see Eboue in his place he may be many things but at least he tries to speed things up in our team
Pace in attack and movement is what we are lacking, hopefully from what we saw of AA23 today he is going to add a bit of quality.
We also desperately need Theo back, we need these kind of players to scare some of these defences, we are too one dimensional at the moment!
21 February 2009 at 8:53 pm
Sorry before you lot answer I meant Eboue instead of Song not Nasri!
21 February 2009 at 8:58 pm
Definately Gooner B. Even if we tried to change our tact, we dont have the midfield players to do it. Alot of our players touchs and reactions are so poor, its shocking. I would love us start playing counter attack football, but we would need an overhaul of players. We need someone to stand up to Wenger and challange him as this farce cannot go on any longer…its too much for the heart (and wallet!) !
21 February 2009 at 8:59 pm
Goodfella I fell your pain and was thinking the same .. up til today Ive been a believer but we now have to hope for Villa too lose 7-8 times for us too pass them seing as we are toothless up front. Looking at how we play we do not deserve a CL spot. When you look at the squad in full we are actually not that crappy “namewise” but just look at the way we play now .. there is no speed or a sense of urgency Im not going to single any player out as we are collectively bad.. I think we should bring in the likes of Keown .. or Roy keane or somebody to take over the training and install some kind of fighting spirit. The players seem to have forgotten how to play the beutiful game.. but anybody can be thought too put up an effort. ..
And to “Assanal” you are so very clever and witty and shear genious .
21 February 2009 at 9:02 pm
drew 10 - agree with you regarding our attacks on how they used to be and how they are now. Have to disagree with you about Theo…I really want the guy to succeed, but I dont think defenses are scared of him. We need a PV04 and TH14 that will really scare teams, not some wonder boy!
21 February 2009 at 9:07 pm
On Song .. the guy is slow yes but in his defence .. he is the only one who actually gives a f.u… about defending .. and his passes are always delivered too a team mate .. hi is vastly improved and deserves the credit he is seemingly the only player who puts his body in the tackles .. now if only he figured out how to move in “fastmotion” as well he’ll be alright. Ive seen the stats on denilson .. but I just don get it .. for me he is too lightweight and ineffective .. but what do I know. Flamini was excellent for us he had pace and strength and 4 lungs. But most importantly he tackled left and right and he also had the faboulos skill of leaving the opponent down and often injuring them in situations were it looked like he was the one to be hurt . .
21 February 2009 at 9:07 pm
I’m absolutely pig-sick of seeing rubbish teams come to us with no ambition beyond defending for 90 minutes and nicking a point. Even worse is the fact they get treated like heroes when they get away with it.
Yes, I know it’s up to us to find a way through, and god knows we had more than enough chances to have won comfortably today. It’s just such a shame from an entertainment point of view. Anti-football wins again, sadly.
21 February 2009 at 9:13 pm
teams try play anti footbal against Man U but they always find a way and break them down…we lack quality to do so. end of.
21 February 2009 at 9:16 pm
We’re the worst ever. Let’s call it quits on the season. We’ve got 44 points and so we won’t get relagated. Let’s give up.
If Eduardo had the mental strength of a mountain, most of his team’s supporters have the mental strength of sand dunes.
21 February 2009 at 9:24 pm
hey crybaby GoonerGerry,
go back and suck your own nipples
we are nearly at the end of season and you still give this suck favourite arsene quote?
i bet the top 8 team in the current league standing would win at least by three goals against this sunderland team except arsenal
and the tendency of this blog blaming and accusing eboue is not more than plain rubiish, if not racist… eboue is the best player this season when come s to sleek passing and movement… it’s pity he can’t find anyone who is a real arsenal player, he used to play with arsenal player, not assanal player of this season
this is premierleague, grown-up!
this is not coco-cola championship, please don’t expect team like cardiff who let you walk them around the park
excuse, excuse, excuse… blame, blame, blame… don’t you guys have enough of them?
i’ve been calling for wenger head from the start of the season!
21 February 2009 at 9:34 pm
Ole Gunner,
you sound more like an MU player than arsenal fan
please go back to norway, we don’t want you!
so proud of your 44 points?
do you think you are a sunderland fan or stoke city fan? why not you celebrate every day like a Christmas day since Arsenal now has 44 points, sitting at the 5th position and going down to 6th in two weeks time?
for your info, Eduardo is a crotian, not norwegian, and his origin is brazilian… luckily he is not playing, otherwise he would be ashamed of this assanal team… he could have given it up and decide to quit football if he knew this is not arsenal, but assanal team
21 February 2009 at 9:37 pm
FFS! Your beloved RvP missed an absolute sitter today from a thru ball, by the eternal scapegoat Denilson.
Fucking negative twats, I really hope we do finish outside the top 4 if it means we ditch fair weather wankers like you… seeya
21 February 2009 at 9:49 pm
Which kind of Arsenal fan calls himself Assanal. Sod off you piece of used Spud toilet paper.
And I suppose it’s too late for you to grow a brain.
21 February 2009 at 9:56 pm
Playa is correct.
Managing expectations is proper and fair at this time.
Bye cesc and rvp, hello mid-table.
We don’t deserve cl football because we are not cl quality. That means if we do end up with a cl place we don’t deserve to be there, we stink. This is the most appaling football produced by Arsenal in many, many years, not because we’re too young or have injuries, or the fans are getting negative, it is because we’re not good enough.
Song, Eboue, Bentndner, Denilson, Diaby, Walcott, - OUT!
Highest prices for low quality product - IS THIS A SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS MODEL?
21 February 2009 at 9:56 pm
we have said it all year. New GK, CB, DM and without Cesc, a better midfielder.
Song not worth a sixpence. Wenger must be sacked coz he does not listem.
5th, maybe 7th and that Arse must take the blame
21 February 2009 at 9:57 pm
every player in the arsenal team today is assanal, ole idiot!
read what i’ve written b4 commenting or maybe you can’t read english?
Arsenal = Assanal = As_Sa_Nal
and only asshole from norway like you are proud of this ass hole team
21 February 2009 at 9:57 pm
ole gunner,
assanal’s name is actually very cleverly constructed and he is a very funny person.
21 February 2009 at 10:01 pm
Wenger is assured of his place in the pantheon of Arsenal greats. He should quit now while the great times are still a clear memory that strike a chord with so many. Thank you Arsène; you were a genius. We will have a couple of years in the doldrums but we are ARSENAL and will find ourselves once again. Never mind £15m on a player, it’s time to spend that on a manager whilst grooming Steve Bould for 2014 onwards.
21 February 2009 at 10:04 pm
Yes, let’s get a goalkeeper, an 8ft 8 centre back, A steel made defensive midfielder. Then let’s go win the league immediately.
Oh Wait…there are 13 matches left to go, Champs League and FA Cup to go for?
Who cares. Just get those players.
Grow up people. Support your damn club and stop moaning like all your cherries are getting popped.
21 February 2009 at 10:06 pm
Ass,
Yes I am proud of my club and my team. Now sod off to your Spud shithole!
21 February 2009 at 10:08 pm
Spike, why don’t you spike it up your Arseanal, we don’t wish to see the club do poorly as you do.
We’ve just seen this coming unlike muppets such as yourself.
21 February 2009 at 10:09 pm
“At the heart of our problem is the central midfield whose poverty is like a cancer on our entire team.”
So it’s Song’s and Denilson’s fault that both our strikers and wide players couldn’t finish today?
And to say that they “don’t care” is patently rubbish. The players were trying to score until the last minute.
We were not sharp enough, our finishing was poor, but please ease up on the melodramatic platitudes.
21 February 2009 at 10:19 pm
i’ve to concede Ole Gunner mania
we don’t need to look further than a norwegian to revive this team
i love carew and riise
oh btw, u mean u r proud of the norway team or the man utd you are playing previously?
i am actually a football agent, i can revive your career and if you want to be a football manager, i can help
we’ve a vacancy in iraq and afghanistan, if you don’t like it, i can bring you to pakistan or iran
21 February 2009 at 10:24 pm
God! Some mothers do have them….
You’re not funny. You’re not clever. You’re not a great fan. And oh how you moan…
Shite Hart Lane calling.
21 February 2009 at 10:25 pm
dan; How can I possibly compete with an intellectual genius like you? Oh my you really told me, you plastic fair weather twat!
21 February 2009 at 10:27 pm
ey; Spot on mate! We had enough chances to win today, yet the likes of RvP and vela contrived to miss good chances. But, no, lets blame the usual scapegoats.
Peter; Yeah, lets have a clearout coz the squad is just soooo effin enormous innit?
21 February 2009 at 10:29 pm
dan; Have you got next weeks lottery numbers? I mean, you are obviously an effinpsychic… Genius
21 February 2009 at 10:29 pm
oh god and i pray to u…
pls, pls… dun appoint ole gunner as our manager
i fear that his low expectation and selective myopia will bring us another trophy… the most coveted unwanted trophy of all time:
coca-cola championship
so ole gunner, why not you kick ferguson out of the hot seat at manu and bring them the glory of coca-cola championship next season?
we don’t want you here as you are a bad seed that could cost us dearly with you low standard… pls go back to norway or manu, they would love u… but fo us, sorry, no, thank you, we don’t want you
21 February 2009 at 10:34 pm
Talk about low standards. You can barely spell you moron.
21 February 2009 at 10:53 pm
Agreed with ey and Spike - We had enough chances for a goal. We should have had a goal in the first 25 mins. I don’t think that Song and Denilson were culpable for anything poor today, they actually did their job and kept things tidy, although Song did manage a couple of crap touches.
I think that the one underlying problem that I saw today was that no one gets into the box when crosses come. Also, I do understand the creativity that Wenger wants people to play, but what good is Bendtner going to do crossing the ball when he is one of the best in the box? When you can’t pass through the middle, then you need to cross the ball, but for some reason - Arsenal don’t want to do it.
21 February 2009 at 10:54 pm
Assanal get a life, what a loser you really are! lol
So you think because a few ppl on here complain about the performances about Eboue or boo him, that makes them racist? Don’t act like a pussy, its embarrasing.
As for todays performance, I’m yet to see it until I watch MOTD that is, but from what I’ve read the reports don’t sound too clever.
AW he has done fantastic over the years, but when the Manager becomes bigger than Arsenal then we’re surely heading for trouble. Its seems inevitable that if he does leave after his current contract expires then the players will leave in their droves. Don’t get me wrong, I want him to stay and get things right and prove us all wrong, but I think he enjoys the clubs limited spending power, for obvious reasons!
I’ve heard too much about Denilsons and songs stats, yeah they can do quick one two passes from a yard away, but they don’t have the balls to get stuck in, a few yellow cards wouldn’t hurt!
Is it too much to ask for some real pride and passion?
21 February 2009 at 11:03 pm
Actually, we did rather well today, given the players we have.
21 February 2009 at 11:06 pm
I haven’t seen the game yet Dan, I think the crowd booed the team off from what I’ve read. With a fully fit squad who would you have played instead of Song in DM?
21 February 2009 at 11:12 pm
Arsenal had a ridiculous number of chances its hard to believe we even have strikers. There is only one option sell rvp ,bendtner and adebayor. Bring in higuain and hunterlaar. Right now we suck big time. Wenger is a fucking cunt. Every week he is looking for different excuses of why his side didnt score. It either is that the defense played very well or we should have had a penalty. Theres no excuse today we were just shit.
21 February 2009 at 11:13 pm
Sell RVP? He’s one of our best players! If you play RVP with crap he’ll probably play crap.
21 February 2009 at 11:17 pm
Everybody in our team seriously needs finishing lessons
21 February 2009 at 11:19 pm
Goonergaz as long as rvp cant finish he is useless. Nobody really cares about his touch or fancy skills its all about scoring and thats one thing he isnt very good at.
21 February 2009 at 11:20 pm
Vela’s 1st miss was really lousy! If he’d have hit the target., the keeper may well have pushed it onto one of our players, yet he scuffed it well, well, wide…Doh!
21 February 2009 at 11:20 pm
Untill recently, RvP was the ONLY player scoring…but, no, you’re right, lets sell him!
21 February 2009 at 11:25 pm
We need a player similar to henry. Adebayor cant beat players and Bendtner seems somewhat unorthodox when he plays football. Wenger should buy Karim benzema or David villa in the summer, with 1 of these strikers in our team, we should win the Uefa cup next season.
21 February 2009 at 11:25 pm
Did you see the lads goal against Everton? It was class. And his goal against Liverpool and while we’re here the two he scored against Chelsea?
21 February 2009 at 11:27 pm
I 2nd your thoughts on Adebayor and Bendtner, but RVP is here to stay I hope along side Eduardo and an elusive new signing such as David Villa would be nice.
21 February 2009 at 11:30 pm
Will you lot shut the fuck off. We will get to the champions league group stage you will see. Everybody thought Tottenham were gonna break into the top four on the final day of the 2005/2006 but they fucked up in the final minute and with the games that villa in the next few weeks what makes you think that they wont drop points. We will definitely mke the top four this season.
21 February 2009 at 11:33 pm
i dont care about what he did then. i about what he has done for us today and he missed a perfectly good chance. Do you realize how long it has been since we have won a premier league game
21 February 2009 at 11:34 pm
i will back but for now motd is on
21 February 2009 at 11:37 pm
Eduardo is our Villa… Saying get rid of RvP is the talk of a clueless fantasy manager playing tool, IMO.
21 February 2009 at 11:45 pm
Ole gunner “some mothers do have em”
ooh betty Vela done a whoopsy in the penalty area
22 February 2009 at 12:32 am
Just watched MOTD. I thought AA played fantastic.
I can’t help but wonder once all the midfield is back to full fitness, who will play where? Is AA more of a Right Winger? Where will that leave Walcott.
22 February 2009 at 12:39 am
Just finished watching motd as well. I thought arshavin was fantastic and very promising. I cant wait till all our players get fit.
22 February 2009 at 12:45 am
Do you think we’ll see AA - Cesc - Nasri - Rosicky play in the same team with Eddie and Robin upfront? I’d love to see that! Maybe too attacking though without a natural DM.
22 February 2009 at 12:46 am
i think i overreacted when i said arsenal should sell rvp. hes still a valued player in the team. However he does not score enough goals
22 February 2009 at 12:47 am
cant wait too goonergaz it will surely make a great midfield partnership
22 February 2009 at 12:48 am
Well actually my idea was Walcott-Cesc-rosicky-arshavin buts yours is alright gooner
22 February 2009 at 12:51 am
Hopeless, toothless, clueless and leaderless = trophyless and soon to be goodplayerless
22 February 2009 at 12:52 am
Go support another red!!
22 February 2009 at 12:53 am
Anyone hear of thew adebayor bust up at an airport.
22 February 2009 at 12:53 am
the not thew obviously
22 February 2009 at 1:08 am
yeah I heard about that, the funniest thing was Ade was bragging about being on 110k a week when I thought he was actually on 80k. If we paid him 80k over a year that would be too generous, nevermind a week!
22 February 2009 at 1:20 am
Spineless, gutless bloated wasters who don’t deserve £100 a week let alone £100,000….
22 February 2009 at 1:28 am
What we need is to give shit about winning.
GP is right. we didn’t bleed for the cause.
Arsene is too soft - but I do think that his hands are tied budget-wise and that he just can’t afford the players he wants. The fact that we almost won the league last year and have remained competitive is remarkable. Over the past few years Arsene has escaped criticism because he had managed resources well-not this year. This year Martin O Neill has outshone him so far. Players need to stand up. We’ve no steel. No backbone.
22 February 2009 at 2:37 am
Pretty weak, playa. Way to go Ole. If you want to complain today, complain about Sagna’s terrible crosses, Clichy’s ineffective offense, and all the shots that we missed. Then blame Ade for having a typical game.
Maybe Song and Denilson don’t go forward more because they are instructed not to. That wouldn’t occur to the morons on this board. What I saw was another shutout, and a team that had at least 7 or 8 great opportunities, and not against weak Championship fodder. We didn’t score, and you can’t blame Adebayor, so blame Song and Denilson. As I said, Morons.
22 February 2009 at 4:47 am
I’m truly lost for words. There has been some serious drug use by posters here today. Yes today was horribly disappointing but what you people are saying beggars belief.
22 February 2009 at 6:58 am
Yes there’s a throng of mongs today… Not a surprise though with a post like that.
That said I agree with the title. Our home support is SHITE except for a minority of real supporters. It makes me cringe to watch home games now, barely any songs/chants, boos and whistles left and right from the beginning and when the going gets tough it just gets worse.
Just watch any other big team, ANY one of them, you name it: ManU, Barca, Real, Milan etc. Even CSKA London and Bayern do better.
This crowd deserves no silverware, no CL spot, nothing. Fucking spectators they are.
22 February 2009 at 7:48 am
The squad has too many average players which can only mean average team. The problem is some fans still expect this team to do well.
This is not even a team, just a collection of over-payed, under-talented egos.
These players were just handed starting places and didn’t have to fight for it, as such they’re not fighters.
22 February 2009 at 9:33 am
The squad would be playing at an entirely different level if the crowd was pushing behind them. Just look at the difference it makes for a championship side like Cardiff, imagine what it could do for us.
22 February 2009 at 9:37 am
oh master GoonerGaz
he is such a big head, as big as arsene asshole for commenting without watching the game
sorry mr. ole gunner sausage(i am not a norwegian, so i mispelled it on purpose)

Assanal shut it. You are not funny, your dry and your childish. And you cant spell. Now shoo Assanal we don’t need you here.
22 February 2009 at 1:56 pm
I seem to be in a minority but I thought Denilson had a pretty good game. After we didn’t strengthen the middle of the park in the summer an injury to Cesc was always going to screw us. Fingers crossed he’s back by the beginning of April. Those of you calling for Wenger’s head need to calm down and grow up.

I agree with this article!!!!! I watched that match and the players were sluggish, they did not move for anything! I hated watching Arsenal this weekend and I honestly don’t know if we will make it to the top 4!
22 February 2009 at 2:08 pm
whats all the worry we will make the top four. Goodplaya this a very shameful post you have written.
22 February 2009 at 2:53 pm
[...] calm themselves down, though the unlucky Tom over at Arseblog has some words for the team, as does Goodplaya and [...]
22 February 2009 at 3:27 pm
to be fair mate eboue didnt do too bad when he came on, stop gettin on his back. it was down to the fans that he tried too hard at tottenham game and got himself sent off. denilson and song are both good players but neither of them have the passing ability of cesc, id like our midfield pairing to be song and cesc when he comes back. denilson did really well yesterday but he doesnt have a presence or strength.
22 February 2009 at 3:46 pm
Sack the lot of them…….Wenger, the board and get rid of Adebayor, Eboue, Bendtner, Denilson, Song. In times of depression and recession, where people worry about their jobs, paying their bills week in week out - these sorry bunch of misfits walk out on to that pitch and not give a damn, they get paid irrespective ranging from 30-110K per week. No thought or comprehension that paying fans turn up to watch a TEAM they love to take them away from the miseries of everyday life and they churn out a dismal performance week in week out. Perhaps joining the dole queue would inspire them? The shitty reality is, because Wenger believes in these players, they have hit a comfort zone, because they know irrespective to how they perform, they will still get picked and still play - so who is to blame for this….. Wenger, so the buck stops with him and to me he is the biggest culprit - sack him, and then watch a more realistic manager make the wholesale changes needed. Scolari, Rijkaard, Mourinho, they wouldnt tolerate half of these players in the team.
I certainly wont be renewing my season ticket next season and after 20 plus years of being one, it disheartens me that I have to resort to such measures.
22 February 2009 at 4:01 pm
Why incude Denilson with those that dont do enough? Denilson worked his socks off and has done so all season. There are lots of other players to complain about…
22 February 2009 at 4:18 pm
Norwaygooner - for the position and for the amount of games he has played this season, I have seen enough to know that for such a prominant position, he doesnt do enough to either protect the defense nor does he do enough to support the attack.
22 February 2009 at 5:09 pm
Shut the fuck off goonerboy. If you think Arsene will get sacked you must be in dream world. If we had another manager we might be in the relegation place. And besides the above managers you mentioned scolari, rijkaard and mourinho arent even as good as they were for their previous clubs.
22 February 2009 at 5:13 pm
U fans suck totally. You are to desperate for cups. But look at other teams like Manu. They didnt complain when they went for three trophy-less seasons. No they stood back and fought and eventually got their reward the premier league title. Its fans like you that dont encourage arsenal at all. You all should shut the fuck off becos your nothing but worthless glory hunters with no real team support.
22 February 2009 at 6:44 pm
jason, do you suck your dads dick with that mouth?
Its wank supporters like you who keep saying “in Arsene we trust”. Fuck that, if this was any other club with serious ambitions, wenger would have been frogmarched out of the building. The results speak for themselves, it is Wenger’s policies, decision and tactics - and it is his lies and excuses that pull the wool over idiots like you, eyes. I dont give a fuck if we dont win another trophy for another 3 seasins, but i am not going to sit back and pay my hard earnt money to watch wank players that step out wearing an Arsenal shirt week in week out.
22 February 2009 at 6:50 pm
‘The frustrating thing is that the catastrophe of midfield was so predictable back in August’
A sentence that it would be ridiculous to disagree with.
We were out of the title race on 1st Sept & 4th place was always the best we could hope for.
And today, for the first time, I genuinely think we’re not even going to get that. I’d really love to share the certainty of some that we will. Yes, Villa will drop points but does anyone honestly not see us dropping points ? Sunderland at home was an absolute must-win to close the gap.
Without a doubt the most pessimistic I’ve felt in the Wenger era.
22 February 2009 at 6:53 pm
Then go fuck yourself gooner. coz the only thing i know from you is glory hunter mentality.
22 February 2009 at 6:56 pm
Sunderland just got lucky in my opinion. We had missed a universe of chances. All of you just have to be patient and wait for all our star players to come back then all other teams can see what we are really made of.
22 February 2009 at 6:58 pm
Flamini come back please i luv u xxx!
22 February 2009 at 7:01 pm
‘Right now we suck big time. Wenger is a fucking cunt. Every week he is looking for different excuses of why his side didnt score. It either is that the defense played very well or we should have had a penalty. Theres no excuse today we were just shit.’
Tosin, you post this & then post again later asking other people to be patient ? Are you taking the piss ?
22 February 2009 at 7:04 pm
Will , give it a rest & grow up. It shows how little you have to say when you have to pretend to be someone else. I’m worried your obsession with me is going to turn into some sort of stalking situation. Let’s hope you never find out where I live.
22 February 2009 at 7:11 pm
Well actually DPK that was my first thoughts about the match. Yesterday i was quite angry about the fact that we drew. But after doing some careful analysis of the match i am now taking back what i said and i think our goals will come if we are patient

22 February 2009 at 7:40 pm
Arsenes time is up. Com on this getting really stupid, we are fifth, 6 points behind villa and everton are playing really well. Wenger knew we were losing experienced players, like flamini, gilberto, hleb etc. But did he do anything about it?no. im sorry but we have jokers like song and denilson starting games and they are not just go enough. We need experienced professional footballers, and for nicklas bendtner , how poor is he. Also emmanuel eboue is no good. Dont get me wrong weve got some really good footballers like fabregas, nasri, rosicky, rvp etc but when they get injured we havnt got quality to back it up. Also you look at wenger doing post match interviews, it dosent like he has his heart in it anymore, he gets really touchy with interviewers, when they are making valid points. Its like arsenal have just settled for just making the top four and thats it every season.
22 February 2009 at 7:46 pm
As of yesterday my luv for arsenal has completely vanished. Its our way of football has vanished through the face of the earth. I think its time for the board to make some changes. first is the sacking of Wenger. hes nothing but an senile old dog. Once we get rid of him we can finally look forward to grabbing some experience
22 February 2009 at 8:21 pm
Gone on then. Fuck off
22 February 2009 at 8:44 pm
Goonerboy, you are my hero, one and only hero
i’ve been asking for wenger head when we lose to fulham at the start of the season
why? because for the first time we’ve ever seen the worst arsenal team under wenger
but remember this blog keep championing with all sorts of reasons to back arsene
now you guys know what you up for? you’re against the wall
if arsene is under abrahmovic, he would have died adn fired a million time
22 February 2009 at 11:12 pm
Boring, boring Arsenal are back.
And reading the message boards on Goodplaya is like having your balls eaten by worms.
22 February 2009 at 11:26 pm
Goodplaya, you are right. This side doesn’t deserve to come fourth. It’s got to the point when I really hope we don’t - because only tha kind of failure with its dire financial consequences will shake the board out its misguided defence of the manager. He has lost it now.
I predict that Arsenal will finish sixth behind Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Everton. They are all better sides than we are at the moment and I prefer watching them play. We are only marginally better than Wigan, Man City and West Ham.
There will be no European football next year for Arsenal (unless we can qualify through the losing the FA cup final to champions Man United - but I honestly doubt if we’ve got the motivation and ambition to get past Burnley.)
And all this after Arsene Wenger talked about a shift in power from Man United to Arsenal in 2002. Give me a break…
22 February 2009 at 11:52 pm
completely agree Old git
23 February 2009 at 9:58 am
“On the plus side, experience has been gained as has talent on the wings and in attack: only Hleb has left…”

I wasted money on cigarettes for a number of years. I realize it affects my overall health therefore I must give up smoking though it’s been difficult. None of the quit smoking steps did the trick. Then I saw the e cigarette. It has honestly changed my life. No more inhaling toxic substances feels fabulous!
