Have Arsenal simply been warming-up for Roma? Post Sunderland analysis.
PERHAPS we’ve been treating the last three weeks as a warm-up for Roma: keep it tight, don’t concede and hope you nick one.
That’s me trying to be positive by the way.
In fairness, Almunia looked very good again on Saturday, Gallas looks probably as good as he had as an Arsenal player, Sagna is very strong and generally speaking the defence is functioning properly. Sure, the rough edges are still there on Kolo and Clichy is well below his early season barnstorming.
But the two goals conceded in seven league games has been no fluke.
And while our attack has been rubbish of late, I don’t think the emphasis on defending is to blame. Whereas a couple of months ago we had chaos when defending corners, now we have coherence.
It is, as I’ve said so many times before, the centre of midfield where we are so bereft. You can cope with one less than excellent player in the middle (we have in the past), but relying on two for any significant length of time won’t work and isn’t working.
And with all due respect to the people who will point to whatever stats about Song and Denilson, I’m not interested in stats. Whether a player completes 80% or 90% of passes matters little. What matters is what we see with our eyes: whether they pick the right ball and whether it is rolled neatly into the path of a teammate or shunted straight at his wrong foot. The same goes for tackles: how many are made matters less than whether or not we see with our own eyes our midfield being run rings round.
I’m not blaming them, just simply saying they are not good enough at the moment.
Some of you will think I’m on cloud cuckoo land when I make my next point but I genuinely believe that if we can buy two quality central midfielders, we could win the league next season.
Of course, that’s easier said than done and it’s far easier to sell top players than to buy them.
But ask yourself what has changed personnel wise from last season (when we came so very close) and our midfield is it really. Our squad is so young that nobody can now really be considered to be in decline. On the plus side, experience has been gained as has talent on the wings and in attack: only Hleb has left, while Nasri, Vela and now Arshavin have arrived. Granted, we probably need to fix the defence long term too.
Against Sunderland, we looked miles away from being the title winners I think we can become.
To borrow a phrase from Tony Blair, we’re at our best when we’re at our boldest.
We’re at our best when Gael Clichy is haring up the left-wing and leaving himself occasionally exposed, instead of sitting back and playing the safe game we saw against Sunderland.
We are at our best when Adebayor is hunting down every ball, not when it is only at the fourth time of asking that one of our forwards realises the Sunderland keeper has not picked up the ball and is wasting time by keeping it at our feet. That would never have happened a year ago.
Watching us against Sunderland was reminiscent of trying to cook a stir-fry on a low heat. We never cranked up the gas, rarely hunted them down and failed to force them into panic clearances.
So to Clichy I say bomb forward like you used to and to Song and Denilson I say scrap for everything. The great thing about scrapping is that anyone can do it, regardless of ability. Take Cesc. Never in a million years a natural scrapper and yet he always goes for anything. To Nasri I say take responsibility, be the main man. And to Bendtner I say run like Adebayor used to. There was far too much jockeying to be seen at the Emirates on Saturday. Pires and Henry earned the right to occasionally coast. This lot haven’t.
It should be said that we were not disastrous.
We had much the better of it and had the chances to score. It’s just galling to see how that lack of quality in midfield and that lack of application is hampering us so badly.
I’d better touch on Arshavin too. He looked full of quality and shorn of fitness. One thing that occurred to me is that if he is to play on the wings, we shouldn’t expect too much of a defensive contribution for a little while.
I also thought Ramsey deserved a go ahead of Eboue. Hierarchies are fine when the people at the top of them deserve to be there. But in this case I don’t see it and you just knew he’d never bring on the youngster ahead of the more established Eboue. Sod the fact one has an excellent attitude and the other’s stinks the place out.
Arsene has been moaning about Sunderland’s tactics and frankly it’s undignified. They were hardly the worst offenders and we only had ourselves to blame. But it’s fascinating to see how the top four after United have struggled so badly at home this season. And it’s not just confined to the top sides. White Hart Lane witnessed 80 goals in 19 league games this season (4.2 a game). This year it is 20 in 13 - just 1.5.
I’ll finish this lengthy post by touching on Denilson’s quotes of last Friday in which he claimed he was his own worst critic. Clearly, he has never met my mate Richard.

Unless FIFA brings in rules similar to the NBA such as illegal defense and a “shot” clock where teams are only allowed a certain amount of time in their own half we are doomed to boring games like this one and as FIFA won’t even put in instant replays for penalty decisions I guess this will never happen and so we just have to find ways to play against cynical teams like these.

Denilson had an excellent game yesterday. Even on the offensive side of the game. Most of the time he was bossing-yes bossing midfield, and covering for Clichy as he bombed forward.
You need to remove the black tint from your eyes and trust them less.
I am watching Denilson since mid-November and he’s playing very well yet getting stick. The stats keep backing me up.
The boy has as much stamina as Clichy. He doesn’t stop running, and just watch him at the end of any match and see if he looks remotely exhausted.
Frankly, I don’t know what you’re talking about. And it distresses me to see a young 20, now 21 year old play so well, and get constantly ridiculed for being rubbish. It seems perverse to me. But that’s football these days.

Ole Gunner - I’m not ridiculing him for being rubbish. I simply don’t believe that he is yet an “excellent” player and nor is Song, making for a midfield that is struggling.
I think he has potential. But he’s been thrown in far too early.
They are both only 21. It’s too much too young.

I genuinely think the criticism of Song/Denilson is unfair - i blogged on just such a theme today.
In many ways, the defence has only been so solid because it has had few chances to defend: and credit for that must go to Song.
Denilson created the best chance of the match when he pkayed in RVP - its just a shame he couldnt convert,
The main problem with this team is that they only seem to show desire in the last ten minutes - but thats an attitude thing, not a team thing.

I love your blog mate but I don’t buy that one bit. Our central midfield pair last year had a cumulative age of 43. This year it’s 42. It’s not a question of age; it’s a question of experience…

The stats mean nothing, I agree with Goodplaya, what’s the use of having even 100% pass completion if it’s all backward or sideways passes in your own half? Making tackles and then losing the ball immediately afterwards? I mean if you look at it another way, Denilson probably has better stats than Lampard or Gerrard, does that make him a better player? It’s laughable really.
I want the boy to succeed, but I can’t deny what’s right in front of me. I’ve watched all our league games this season and I’ve yet to see anything to convince me he’s good enough for an Arsenal that wants to compete for the league title. By the end of this season we might see what he truly is good enough for, getting us into the Europa League. And he will be more responsible than others seeing as he has played more than anyone else this season. He might come good in the end, but can we afford the wait?

The team was unlucky to not score yesterday. If they had scored the first, they’d have scored 3 (at least). Almost every player missed one that on almost any other day would’ve gone in.
Teams that have no win objective (like Sunderland) just will not venture any players forward until they’ve got nothing to lose. Arsenal are better against teams that have winning ambition. Teams that come only to draw, in addition to being chickens who should be the shame of their own fans, are difficult to break down. It was laughable hearing the announcers talking about a memorable point earned by Sunderland. Give me a break. They played like a team with no ambition. They should be booed by their own fans for the lack of a spine.
My only complaint is that Wenger shows these teams too much respect. He should start with only one of Denilson and Song and have a positive player in place of whoever rests (e.g. Vela). The team should come out playing like they are a goal down.
That said, yesterday’s draw was a bit like the Tottenham (4-4) draw. A fluke.
History suggests that 70 points is good for 4th. There are 12 games left and 70 is 25 points away. They better get winning quick.

Was so disappointed with the game.
Really its very difficult to have any confidence ahead of Roma.
If we can’t put teams like Roma away how are we going to deal with Roma?
I genuinely think we’ll be playing for a scoreless draw and hope to score over there when players come back.
I also find it hard to believe that Bendy is still playing up front. The poort lad just doesn’t have the talent to make it.
Im also very disappointed with RVP. For such a wonderful player who has spent 4/5 last years on the treatment table the very least he owed the club was some semblance of loyalty by signing a contract. Of course it now seems money speaks for him as it did for Hleb and Flamini.

OK Denilson has the best passing numbers (volume and accuracy) in the league, and plays in a congested midfield. Like all defensive oriented midfielders he has a fair number of back and sideways passes. But lets for the sake of argument forget all of that. Why are you so blind that you don’t look at the most important stats for his position. Tackles, Pass Intercepts, Attempts created in that order. Intercepts best in the league by a mile. Successful tackles best amongst the big 4, and 5th in the league behind teams that are low in the league and spend most of their time defending. Attempts created top 20 - which is fine for his experience and role in the team (more defensive of the midfielders except when he plays with Song). When you compare these numbers vs Flamini he is better in all categories except tackling (where Flamini last season was a little better - not a lot). Total tackles and intercepts Denilson per game is better than Flamini last season per game. Attempts created, shots, goals, passes, and accurate passes Denilson is better.
Why don’t you point out that the reason Arsenal are struggling is the poor conversion of their shots on goal. And this includes Ade and RvP (compared to last season).
All of these stats do not lie.
Lastly, United did not break down Sunderland. They struggled for 90 mins at home and finally won with a lucky deflection from Vidic in the last minute.

The team was hopeless, yesterday. They lack courage and confidence. No attack, or, cohesiveness.
Clichy has lost his confidence; he does not attack. Even when he goes forward, he passes the ball backwards or sideways. Generally,the entire team passes the ball sideways. Very easy to defend. Its no point to say the other team’s tactics is defense; in fact this tactic gives us an advantage to attack.
Another failing of this team is that they tend to gets suck in by the opposition’s tempo. Instead, of palying at our own level, if the other guys slows it down, we slows it down too!!!
They must get the game against Spurs,4 -4 draw, out of their head.
Anyway, I hope Le’ Boss takes heed of Sir Alex’s advise on balance. To me it is the most constructive criticism given by a rival boss.

The thing is you cant have it both ways, Song & Denilson arent really there to create & its because they are more solid that we have been far better defensively.There is more emphasise on the widemen or strikers now to make things happen (ala pires & freddie in the days of old). Lack of experience is however a good point, If you look at our midfield & strikers on saturday it consisted of 4 players that were all 21 & under & a Russian without a pre season makin his debut in the prem! so yep not too much experience on show.
But lets not forget we were still really struggling this season early on when Cesc was playin so just blamin the current CM partnership for all our woes is simply wrong.
As has been well documented we miss the energy of flamini & also adebayors (workrate/goals) well he aint hardly performing at all this term, so thats 2 vital cogs already taken away from last years team.
Nasri yes is showing promise but is also young & inexperienced. Now i think he looks a tidy player & will prove a good buy but at the mo if i am being honest well i dont think he has really produced too many moments that have actually influenced much (created or scored) since the Man U game.

Goodplaya makes a very good point about having average players in the middle of the park.
Denilson is not a world beater, but in time might mature into an efficient player like Gilberto.
Song is a very uninspired and mediocre midfielder. I wish he would go in and scrap with more energy (as mentioned this does not require too much talent). It really pisses me off when he tries nonchalant flicks. But to be fair to him, he’s probably more a defender.
Really, we have struggled with negative teams last season, during spells when Cesc and Hleb were out.

Posters are comparing Denilson with Flamini and Gilberto. Some say he’s not as good, as good or potentially better.
OK……….
So that does that make Song Cesc’s replacement? Hmm….perhaps that’s the real problem in midfield.
As for comparisons with past regimes, Flamini had Helb, Cesc and (at our best) Rosicky alongside him last season. All 4 pitched in when we defended. Nasri helps occasionally, Walcott tries, Eboue…well, I’m not too sure about that one and I don’t think we should expect a whole lot of tracking back from Arshavin, our new Russian Mighy Mouse on the wing.
IMO, Denilson is doing Ok, he’s just not getting a lot of help.

I have to agree with Ole Gunner on this one. Denilson and our midfields biggest problem is the positional sense of Alex Song. Denilson basically covers 9/10 of what he and Song should be doing together defensively as well going forward - and I’m just looking forward to either Abou Diaby, and when the time comes Cesc - comes back to partner Denilson.
With Denilsons work rate I even believe it would be fine to pair him centrally with Nasri.

I think your all barking up the wrong tree. Just over a year ago when we were sitting at the top of the table no one would say any of our players werent good enough, infact Wenger was god and everyone at Arsenal were seen as great players. The players havnt changed (bar flamini and hleb) the confidence is gone, and because we are a young side its hard to look within an get self confidence back again, ewven when we do win convincingly. this lack of confience shows everywhere on the pitch, hesitant passing, kicking the ball out without thinking, not being confident with the runs and snatching at good opportunities. Were good enough, just noway near confident enough and i blame that on Arsene, i think hes obviously a great scout and technical manager but he doesnt inspire confidence to the young lads or man manage them well. Im not saying get rid of him, maybe get in some other guys to boost self belief and confidence to the younger lads.

Arsenal arent good enough to break down teams who come with a plan.Any point away is accepted..remember at Sunderland you lot were lucky to get a point with an injury time equiliser so give credit where credit is due.teams now have well laid plans and it seems to be working ,especially against Arsenal…

this isn’t all about the sunderland game. look at every home game since we lost cesc. they have all been exactly the same. sometimes we have got the single goal and won 1-0 and sometimes we haven’t, but you cant say this has only happened against sunderland because it hasn’t.
Ade was in the team before but it made no difference. the centre back pairings have changed but that made little difference. I though Arsh made a difference because he was willing to have a pop, but then he got taken off. but really the pattern of the game is dictated by the central midfielders.
they happen to be Den and song now. before that it was Den and Diaby. again that change made little difference. what we really miss is class in central midfield, just like Liverpool did when Gerrard and Alonso were missing yesterday.
I think wenger might be tightening his defence in readiness for the cup runs (FA and CL). But for me, the league has gone, but I would MUCH rather see Ramsey in there than one of den or song in league games. whats more, doesn’t Den ever feel tired? he plays every game.

You hit on a terrific point about passing Goodplaya. When you watch the kinds of passes that Denilson (sometimes) and Song make, it is not the kind of passes that allow a player to be in stride. Our players either have to stop or they need to take the pace off the ball or both. Those may count as completed passes but they’re not effective. Plus, the stats don’t take into account the sideways passing.
I think Denilson is a player that can make it but he needs time and he needs to fight for his place like a certain Mr. Flamini did. Song, the more I see of him, the more I am convinced that he is not a central midfielder. He could be a decent backup at the back for us, when players are injured but that’s about it.
As it stands right now, I’d take my chances with Nasri-Denilson midfield pairing with Vela/Wilshire and Arshavin on the wing, at least till Theo is back. Then we can go with *drool* Theo and Arshavin as wide players.

Jonny - I’ve specifically said our players are good enough, with the exception of central midfield.
A year ago we had Cesc, Flamini and Gilberto (and before that Diarra too). Now we have Song (five league starts last season, three of them at the back) and Denilson (four league starts).
That’s a massive difference.

You hit the nail on the head when you refer to making a stir fry at a low heat being comparable to watching Arsenal. Song and Denilson should never be first choice, even with all our injury problems. Bentner should not ever start as he is in my opinion only ever good as an impact sub. I am not criticising any of these players, but I have to criticise our manager because it is he who picks them ahead of players who should probably get the nod. I saw the selection pre match and I was truly expecting a draw or at best a narrow win.
Arshavin was very positive and I really like the look of him but let’s be honest, he was surrounded by mediocrity and that is just not good enough at Arsenal. Surely it’s time to try players like Ramsey, Wilshere, Merida, Vela from the start. It may not work but at least try something because it is all getting so predictable. I like Denilson and really think he has a future, but a combination centrally with Song is doing him no favours. Please Arsene just have a bit of invention!!! Surely we have within our depleted squad, a key to unlock the likes of Sunderland at home.
I think we will be very lucky to get fourth. Very depressing indeed !!

best games this season were early carling cup ones when Vela, Ramsey and Wilshere featured and bossed the game. no other midfield has been as exciting as that. the fans want to see some excitement because right now is worse than George Grahams final team.
I am just totally underwhelmed watching Denilson.
I think when Cesc comes back his partner should be Song. Then you have a good balance between attack and defence. When we used Den and Cesc together we were leaking goals left right and centre. Den is just not effective enough going forward and not strong enough defensively.

We’re playing for a 0-0 draw tomorrow and looking to nic it in Roma when Cesc returns.
Song is a disaster and cannot pass. His longest passes are 10 yards behind him to his support. It looks like he hates having the ball in his possession, and it looked like Sunderland was laying off him so he’d keep getting the ball.
Agree fully on Bentner. He tries to conserve his energy when he starts and coasts for much of the 1st half. He picked it up for the last 20 minutes of the match, but he’s much more effective as a sub.
The most frustrating thing is how close we were last season and how badly we need the pieces we lost. In particular, we should have NEVER let Gilberto go (for £1 million!). His leadership and presence would’ve been instrumental this year. Although Hleb wanted to go, he’s a natural centre mid and is the ideal replacement for Cesc.
It’s infuriating that the squad had so much potential entering this season and now won’t even qualify for the CL.

Hmm this has been a rather hot point this season hasn’t it? Our midfield not coping!
Personally I think it all boils down to the age old point that we do not have the experience where is counts in the midfield.
At the moment our team is completely ‘rudderless’ in the fact that we have no seriously experienced players good enough to captain the side. It lacks a decent captain to rally the troops. Cesc is a great player but giving him the armband is only to keep him at the club next season. We need some experienced direction!!! Any army would not send out a troop of 19-21 year olds on their own to win a battle without an experienced ‘John Rambo’ type to guide them along the right path!
Song and Denilson have no-one to ‘look up to’ to lead them in the right direction. in fact the whole team has no-one barking out orders to keep everyone in check!
Song is the laziest player we have and for him to be a combatant midfielder in the fast-paced premiership is a farce. When he loses the ball he just ambles at a slow trot to try and redeem his mistake, (watch the Sunderland highlights). The fact Song is a first choice player is an embarrassment to the club and the fans. He is nowhere near good enough to wear an Arsenal shirt! I feel he is a very luck footballer that has no competition to keep his place in the starting line up!
I watched Denilson in his, dare I say, younger days, and he showed great potential, very skillfull and gifted. However that potential has been stifled due to the fact that too much is expected of him. His committment is pretty good however he just isn’t good enough to be a 1st choice player just yet. He is too young to be played in every game of a season as a first 11 player.

Alex Hleb had no end product! Fact! 7 goals in 89 appearances over 3 years! Hmmm Not bad for an attacking midfielder - NOT!
He was great at taking on opponents no matter how many but never had an eye for goal! He had a problem with passing forwards too! There’s no point in taking on 5 players to create space be within 10 yards of the goal only to pass the ball bakwards!

3 years ago arsenal fans assumed that all of their players would just keep getting better and better, but that isnt the case. Few of their players have made steps forward in the last three years. The one that really stepped up, Flamini, left. The rest seem at pretty much the same level, and whilst they might improve, there is no guarantee. That is why most managers use a mixture of youth and experience; It helps players develop, and allows players to develop more slowly. This team is far too raw. If you mixed 5/6 of the Arsenal players with a team of good, experienced players, they would be far more deadly team. They could especially do with an experienced Centre back, and experienced defensive midfielder. They could also do with a goal poacher, Not necessarily someone pacey, with bags of skill, just someone experienced at putting the ball away. This team seems to have too many technical players, with pace and skill. Its over specialized.

I am a real arsenal supporter, but arsenal really frustrate me because they tend to try and walk the ball into the net. I personally think that arshavin will give us the flair that we need. When i watched the arsenal vs sunderland match i realized straight away that he was taking shots and one of those efforts will have to go in at least once in the rest of the season!

I really dont understand what is going on with all you so called gooners. Earlier this season, when things started to go wrong with arsenal, you were all making noise about our defense, and moaning flaminis departure and all. Now at this point, you think we do not have good strikers! blah blah blah. You realize that arsene has only brought in one person in the team and that has neither been a central midfielder nor a defensive midfielder like what you guys were shouting about! The team has started playing well defensively, but creativity and goals are not present at the moment, and you have all shifted your blame onto this. Looks to me like some of you guys are there to make noise and not look at things positively. It all proves that that arsene knows and he will always know when it comes to arsenal matters! It is now clear that some of you are there to just shout and criticize, not putting a thought first. Ac Milan is not in champions league this season and somebody tell me which players when that happened at the end of the season, in relation that joined! What makes all you guys think that arsenal players are not blaming themselves for this slump in form?What makes you think that they will just leave because they failed to pull the team up? What makes you think Van persie will leave because he has failed to score enough goals to win us games?These players have brains and they know that all this has been partly and to a bigger percentage their fault, and walking away does not make them bigger players with lots of ambition they are beyond arsenal fc.[i will not give examples here, i will hope that you have the brains to remember] Now, get your thinking gear before you mutter any criticism. I am frustrated when we do not kill teams off, and i know we belong in the top four, but my point is about gooners who should be just reading and not typing! in other words, who should shut their mouth and not say anything until they think first. I recognize that frustration with recent results clouds people’s judgement of the team, but frankly as an Arsenal supporter, its embarrassing to read both Goodplaya’s assessment and the comments of many on here.
First of all, with regard to Song and Denilson. They are defensive midfielders. Their primary job is to break up the play, provide cover for the back 4 and distribute the ball to the more creative players in the team. They’ve been doing that reasonably well over the last month, as indicated by the significant improvement in the defensive record. They’re not looked to for individual brilliance or creativity any more than players in the same position like Carrick, Obi Mikel, Makele or even Manu Petit. Neither, of course, is Cesc Fabregas. But there are very few players in the world that are.
The fact is that teams have countered the way that Arsenal play by deciding to concede possession to an almost ridiculous extent and defend in numbers in the last third of the pitch with the occasional counterattack. Its up to us now to respond with tactical adjustments. Its not a question of ‘effort’, of ‘commitment’, of ‘getting stuck in’ or any of the similar platitudes that are ingrained in the English approach to football. Its about adjusting our playing style, which has become rather methodical, and looking to play more quickly at times before teams are able to get numbers back and adopt the defensive shape that is so difficult to break down.

I am getting a bit fed up of this season..the reason for this is that i know we are playing below our potential…teams ALL have the belief that they can defeat us.. and this makes them get at us. Does Wenger expect teams to let us rip them to shreds..duh..OF COURSE NOT!!! that is what tactics is all about…every team knows that to take us out..close out our midfield..well, i expected Wenger to have BY NOW, known that to beat this 11 men behind the ball tactic..let us use good wingers…but alas instead of seeing wing players like Vela or Ramsey..we see idiots like Eboue..and maybe Diaby on the wings..why can’t Wenger change our pattern to nullify our opposition? Guus Hiddink realised that to stop Aston Villa, stop the crossess coming in from the wings..stop Ashley Young making the crossess for Heskey and Carew to head. His game plan worked and they won.. why cant Wenger change his plans when he sees they suck?

Criticizing Denilson’s passes without looking at the positioning of players he was supposed to pass the ball to, is, to me, very unfair. If you look at the position from which Bendtner, RVP, Arshavin took shots from,(Nasri had 0 shots) only 2 were in the box and the rest were from deeper positions. Now, I would expect a pass to have something to do with the receipient of the pass to be in a position to receive it, unless of course we want Denilson to pass the ball forward into the final third even when no one is there but the opposition??!?!?!?

For me Song is not suited for a central midfielder. Watch the Cardif game and you will see that most Cardif attacks were started by Song :/. To me it looks like Denilson is doing 3/4 of the work…
But the thing that bugs me about the Sunderland game is why the hell was Song replaced by Eboue? Push Denilson in the DM position and put on Ramsey or Merida. Or put Djourou on. Dont he also want to play in midfield?

Leon is spot on. We had a porous defense and that has been fixed now. Our entire midfield is made of players who would have been progressively introduced if it was not for the injuries to Roskici, Walcott and Cesc.
Against Sunderland we did not play wengerball but we had enough occasions to score. Can’t blame Vela who IMHO should have started but Bendtner and RvP should have scored at least one.
Denilson was not planned to be a regular starter and Song is even behind in the pecking order, and may stay behind with his attitude. Maybe his future is in CD after all, won’t have to run too much there.
When everyone returns from injury in March-April, we’ll have 10 players competing for 4 spots (Cesc, Arshavin, Nasri, Rosicki, Walcott, Denilson, Vela, Eboue, Diaby, Song) and that’s without including the youngsters.
Until then let’s hope we’ll be more efficient in front of Roma’s goal.

The anti-impotence drug Viagra actually reduces men’s fertility by decreasing the ability of their sperm to fertilize an egg, according to a study conducted by researchers at Queen’s University Belfast and published in the journal Fertility and Sterility.
Researchers carried out two different experiments to determine what effect the popular drug might have on sperm cells. In the first study, human sperm samples were bathed in weak Viagra solutions, intended to approximate the blood concentration acquired from taking a single 100-milligram Viagra pill. They found that while the Viagra-bathed sperm became more active, they also suffered damage to the structure at their heads known as the acrosome. This portion of the cell contains enzymes that help break down the membrane around an egg so that the sperm can penetrate it.
To determine if this cell damage actually affected fertility rates, the researchers compared the fertility of two groups of male mice, one of which had been given Viagra. They found that mice in the Viagra group produced 40 percent fewer fertilized embryos than mice that had not been given any drugs.
Researcher David Glenn noted that the many fertility clinics that prescribe Viagra in order to increase sperm counts may actually be harming the fertility of their clients.
“I think it is worrying that some in-vitro fertilization clinics are using Viagra in order to boost fertility results,” Glenn said. “Couples that go there for treatment are, by definition, already having problems getting pregnant. Giving male partners something that could make the problem worse is scarcely the right approach.”
Glenn also expressed concern over the long-term effects that recreational Viagra use might have on people’s fertility.
“Viagra has become a widely used recreational drug,” Glenn said. “It is mixed with cocaine, for example, and is sold in clubs. Our work leaves open the possibility that there could be a cumulative effect from taking Viagra, however, which could pose serious fertility problems in later life.”

Arthritis in the knees. What is the best way to get relief? I have arthritis in my knees and they are painful and stiff. I find walking down the stairs at home nearly impossible. Walking upstairs is no problem. My doctor won’t prescribe painkillers in tablet form at they upset your stomach with long term use. So I am using a gel called Etoflam which doesn’t help very much.
