Gael Clichy gets the most deserved call-up ever
I’M not usually bothered by international call-ups.
In three and a half years of writing this blog, Cesc, Flamini, Eboue, Senderos, Djourou, Walcott, Diaby, Denilson, RVP, Bendtner and probably a few others have received their first call-ups. I’d be surprised if you could find 20 words I’d written on all of those call-ups put together.
Frankly, the way I saw it was that if international recognition had come quicker to them than to Nigel Winterburn and Steve Bould, they had not really earned it. Ridiculously harsh you might say, but hey, it’s my blog.
However my mood is different today. Gael Clichy was has been called up to the France squad aged almost exactly 22 and a half.
For some reason it is particularly sweet. I can’t, in all my time watching Arsenal, recall a better representative of the club. I can’t recall someone I feel more at ease cheering for, someone who represents our pretentious ideals of what we imagine Arsenal should stand for.
At 17, he uprooted from Cannes to North London and in the subsequent four and a half years the loudest peep we have heard from him was a slightly high pitched appeal for a throw in.
I remember walking down to Camden on a warm early August afternoon in 2003 and watching him make his debut in an Irish pub with Setanta Sports as we drew 1-1 at Celtic.
A few months later I was in Camden again, but this time a different pub, to see him start for the first time in a 3-0 win at Birmingham. Clichy played ahead of Cole on the wing that afternoon and was replaced by Kanu on the hour - typically unhappy with his contribution that day if I remember correctly.
He became the youngest ever winner of a championship medal. And then he got crocked.
But in doing so, he went on to disprove that most lazy, wretched assumption about footballers being sick-notes. Sure, some are. But others simply go through periods of injury and ill fortune that can last two or three years. It happens.
When Ashley Cole left and Gallas arrived, many fans wanted to see Senderos or Djourou partnering Toure, with Gallas at left back. I made a post titled “To not give Clichy a go would be a woeful waste”.
The first person to post on the comment board was a guy who said simply “clichy is a pro crock. better off away from arsenal.”
Looking back at many of my previous posts, I’m aware I could turn this into an “I told you so” story. In particular one line that read: “I’m aware I rate the Frenchman higher than many of my readers” sticks in the mind.
But that is not the point.
The point is the guy is outstanding. The point is the guy has gone from maybe one day as good as Cole to as good as Cole was at his age to as good as Cole was to as good as Cole was but without the attitude to potentially better than Cole full stop.
As I said, I can’t ever remember Gael Clichy letting down himself, his manager, his team or his fans in four and a half years. I can’t remember a moment this season where he has switched off, an instance where he has given less than 100 per cent when chasing a ball.
Compare Clichy to Cole and you have a a comparison that will stick very awkwardly with those who accuse foreigners of bringing bad influences to our shores.
Congratulations Gael. You deserve it.

Agreed whole heartedly, and I was another who always believed he would make the left back position his own.
What would you bet he gets injured in one of these games though?
1 February 2008 at 12:52 am
very happy for clichy. an amazing athlete he is.
ps. you’ve got some mighty, mighty comment spam on those old posts!
1 February 2008 at 12:55 am
Thank you.Arsenal fans
i appreciate it very much.
This makes me want to stay at arsenal for life.
1 February 2008 at 1:02 am
Have now sorted out the spam… I think.

“The point is the guy is outstanding. The point is the guy has gone from maybe one day as good as Cole to as good as Cole was at his age to as good as Cole was to as good as Cole was but without the attitude to potentially better than Cole full stop.” Enough said.
I’m usually indifferent to, sometimes even wary of, Arsenal players getting into their national teams. But Gael, I’m truly delighted to hear about his call-up, simply because if he’s happy to play for France, I’m happy for him. What a good player, what a lovable person.
1 February 2008 at 1:23 am
Gael is gay!
1 February 2008 at 1:30 am
He is without doubt a worthy successor to AC.
He is speedy and his contribution the attack cannot be underestimated.
Congrats.
1 February 2008 at 1:52 am
Gael C.
Is a god’am Legend !
And is showing his truth potential
and deserves a call up.
He is far better than gallas and on par with toure .. He will be captain if he rewards us
with 4 more years of service !
1 February 2008 at 2:17 am
Dont really want him spending 2 weeks with Domenech but what the hey, he will outlast that stupid cunt by a good 10 years.
He must have the right star signs as well.
Interesting Diarra got picked, he looked pretty average against United and its no wonder that he couldnt displace Flamini
1 February 2008 at 2:19 am
Definitely feeling the same way, Goodplaya. Great post.
Clichy absolutely deserves every success he gets in football. His attitude is exemplary, his skill is unquestionable and he obviously loves what he is doing. Here’s to him having a long period of success both with Arsenal and French national side.
1 February 2008 at 2:45 am
You mob know that Gael Clichy isn’t his real identity? It’s just a suit he wears which he can fit into a ring. So truth be told, his real name and identity is Wally West!
The Flash when he is done for the day, loves sleeping to the tunes of his own doppler effect on Ronaldo or any winger/faller!
1 February 2008 at 2:47 am
OK - this is my first comment ever on this site after a year watching the contributions but this article is prompting me to make a comment. This is quite simply the best article (amongst many good ones) that this humble reader thinks you’ve written Goodplaya in the past year..!!! Its important to acknowledge the unsung heroes - even more importantly when they’re so excessively modest and committed like Gael Clichy is. I dont think there is one other person that represents the ethos, values and vision of what Wenger holds for this club more than Gael Clichy. Its about time Domenech woke up..!
1 February 2008 at 3:08 am
An excellent post. Congrats to Clichy; he and Flamini has shown the English boys that newspaper rants (praise) cannot substitute for hard work and commitment. Unlike their English counterparts, ex-Arsenal boys who were lavishly praised and one could say, way ahead of this pair in their early years, they had put their heads down, worked hard and realise their potential.
We have a number of good English boys in the reserves now; I hope they would not follow the paths of Pennant, Bentley, Smith etc etc, get carried away with early success (praise) and forget they are mere potential not the real thing yet. Hard work gets you there not potential.
1 February 2008 at 3:21 am
Goodplaya, how long have you harbored a grudge against the guy who wrote “clichy is a pro crock. better off away from arsenal”? That was a year and a half ago. Most normal people would’ve forgotten it. Still, bravo Clichy. He looks like a stillborn foetus, but he plays very, very well. And it’s an excellent post.
1 February 2008 at 3:38 am
wow… you made me want to cry! so touching… haha!
Anyway… agree 120% with you!
1 February 2008 at 4:18 am
Félicitations Gael!!
et chapeau à goodplaya pour un excellent blog!!
F.
1 February 2008 at 4:41 am
Playa, I couldn’t agree with you more. Gael is everything you would ever want in a representative of our beloved club. Works hard, softspoken, overcame adversity… and damn talented, even under pressure near his own goal. Top Man for sure. I can’t wait to celebrate his first goal for the Arsenal!
1 February 2008 at 4:41 am
bad news is that spiteful France manager will play the Arsenal Boys for a full 90+ minutes in these matches,Even though AW tells him to rotate.
1 February 2008 at 7:17 am
stop comparing clichy with cole now, i think that gael is far better and more mature than cashley
1 February 2008 at 9:01 am
[...] call-ups were announced yesterday and Goodplaya has a nice appreciation of Gael Clichy so all I will do is add my congratulations to the [...]
1 February 2008 at 9:11 am
Excellent stuff, I am a big Gaël Clichy fan too.
I genuinely think he is now better than Cashley ever was. And with his wonderful attitude, I can see him still improving (crosses? but he’s getting there too).
Great ambassador to Arsenal Football Club.
Well worth this article.
Nearly scored with his right on saturday, and whichever way it happens, I think indeed his first goal will be a special occasion for celebration. Like Magic Hat, I can’t wait!
1 February 2008 at 9:22 am
Got to chime in with my appreciation of Gael too. He always gives 100% and I thought he was outstanding on Tuesday night. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
1 February 2008 at 9:39 am
I remember meeting gael at a bus stop in southgate when he first broke into the arsenal team, what a thoroughly nice geezer he his, he’s a credit to the arsenal and the best left back in the premiership, cole who?
1 February 2008 at 9:40 am
Cheers to Clichy! I would have had his name slapped on the back of my new Arsenal away jersey — who wouldn’t want some of his super-human powers, humility, and work-effort — but between all Arsenal players I love I just couldn’t chose. So, I guess I am just me, Arsenal fan, when I wear that shirt…
I share whole-heartedly your irritation at the nasty and abusive labeling of players as sick-notes. The current objects of abuse our Rosicky and RVP. One seems to have a chronic imbalance in his left-hip that was causing muscle-strains. The Czech doctors actually berated Arsenal’s medical staff for not finding the root cause, and after giving him some simple stretching exercises we are getting to see what a magnificent player we have. Yes he is injured now, but I think he will get stronger and stronger. As for RVP, he had a fractured foot last year and this year his knee was bent sideways. So, two magnificent players; one with a chronic but correctable problem, the other just unlikely.
1 February 2008 at 9:41 am
…whoops. RVP is just unlucky, not unlikely…
1 February 2008 at 9:45 am
Well said on Clichy. The player is everything that is good about Arsenal and the game.
1 February 2008 at 9:49 am
[...] Right then. News and stuff. Well Gael Clichy has been called up the French squad for the first. Which is good for him. He deserves it. Sadly it means he has to hang around with that cunt Domenech but possibly it’ll make that Evra cunt cry, and I can live with that. Goodplaya, the big unhungover bastard, writes about Clichy here. [...]
1 February 2008 at 9:55 am
Gael, I always thought you would one day be in the Blue t-shirt. Go boy. we enjoy seeing you making those runs and particularly the passes to Eduardo.
1 February 2008 at 10:03 am
Gael Clichy Clichy,
He’s better than Ashley,
He should wear number three,
Gael Clichy Clichy…
1 February 2008 at 10:16 am
Gael to me is the best left bak in z premiership today, far better than evra.
So i dunt see any1 deserving a call up more than he does,
COME on gael.
1 February 2008 at 10:17 am
Great guy, and he has started shooting to score too. Which is encouraging. I used to see Clichy and Kolo as busy bodies, full of running but not getting neither the man or the ball. Arsene is the lubricant, he fine tuned these guys, now they are delivering big time.
I see Theo in the same light. Full of speed, gets the ball, attempts to dribble his way past 5 defenders, loses the ball, poor tackling, appears to be losing confidence but once put on a break-through scores all the time, on his day delivers good assists, etc etc etc. Wenger will lubricate and THEO WILL BE GREAT. I’m glad that he didn’t go on loan.
Please when his time comes, come back and write something good on him (like the above post), will you.
1 February 2008 at 10:29 am
He has been a joy to watch the last few weeks. His calmness in possession, the improvement of his passing and crossing. I really enjoy seeing players racing to catch him while he glides past them. He is super fast. I rated him higher than Cole but I admit I had my doubts after he got injured. Delighted for him & cant wait till he scores his first goal for us
1 February 2008 at 10:32 am
Couldn’t agree more with your sentiments but, like Arseblogger, just wish that Domenech had been as thick as we think he is and not noticed Gael’s performances. Yes I know it would have been difficult even for an imbecile not to have noticed but sod it anyway!
1 February 2008 at 10:33 am
Great post, and absolutely spot on. It’s great to see Clichy get the recognition he deserves, and many of our attacking-midfield-centric media have even picked up on it.
Like you though, what really impresses me is the class he shows in how he goes about his game. He shuns the limelight, and just gets on with his job to a consistently high level. And not just consistent as in ‘match to match’, but he’ll run sixty yards in the 90th minute even if we’re 3-0 down and the crowd are quiet.
On the injury front, he is the perfect counter-argument to those who think Van Persie will never make it.
1 February 2008 at 10:41 am
Congrats to Clichy, it’s been a long time coming.
Arselicked - Arsene - Lubricant? Hmmmm
1 February 2008 at 10:42 am
gael clichy-clichy
he’s better than ash-ley
he should have been number 3
gael clichy-clichy
1 February 2008 at 10:44 am
WHAT A GREAT PLAYER & person gael is, i met him in tinseltown with hleb & fab & he was amazingly modest even quite shy. his attitude & commitment on the pitch is second to none. i wish him the most successful career with the arsenal, i think he is definately among wenger’s great signings it was there for all to see from the first time he stepped on the pitch! p-out fellow gooners
1 February 2008 at 10:49 am
I am a big gael clichy fan so I am happy for him. It is fully deserved.
1 February 2008 at 10:54 am
Clichy is fantastic, and he’ll get better. He just needs to work on that final ball - with Adebayor in the box we’re looking deadly from crosses (HOW good was Flamini’s ball the other night?).
For some reason we’ve had a succession of great left backs since Kenny Sansom (and I include Cole before he turned nasty) I can’t remember us ever being short in that position. Top 5 anyone?
1. Winterburn
2. Clichy
3. Sansom
4. Cole
5. Silvinho
1 February 2008 at 10:54 am
Interesting yesterday that the alien that manages Chelsea, following Capelli’s squad announcement, claimed that Chelsea had “the two best English full backs in the PL”.
I felt I couldn’t disagree particularly.
Jornalistic editing later changed that to “the two best full backs in the PL”.
Oh how I laughed. I think Evra is pretty good, but, for us, Gael is just immense. 92nd minute in agame we’re winning 3-0 and he’s ripping down the wing like his life depended on it.
That’s what we want to see! The man who will go for the ‘lost’ ball - and win it. I also think that’s why many Arsenal fans like Adebayor so much.
Well done Gael, you make us proud.
1 February 2008 at 10:55 am
Don’t care about international football but I’m sure Gaël will consider this a great honour and I am delighted for him. He is a truly excellent left back, a top ambassador for the club and a model of professionalism. My vote for “playa of the season” so far.
1 February 2008 at 11:02 am
Top top post. Clichy shits on the face of Cuntley; theres no comparison between the two what so ever - if ever any ones desreves to be in anyones International squard its Gael.
Top top professional, and it really is a pleasure to have his name on the back of my shirt.
1 February 2008 at 11:20 am
ScottyDavisGooner,
You like his legs as well dont you Scotty
1 February 2008 at 11:33 am
if anyone deserves it its Gael Clichy,i dont think any left back has nulified Ronaldo like he did and dont think Evra wud have coped that well either he jus doesnt have the recovery speed that Gael has.
I fear bout Diaby though becoz he is on the brink of the French squad too but his position is well manned and he has to be playing in the centre of mid, still gotta give him credit for sticking around and signing another contract.
We Gunner Gunn Em…
1 February 2008 at 11:35 am
Brought tears to my eyes, this. You know how much we warm to these players and they become like people we know.
In my long years as an Arsenal fan, I have not known a better face for Arsenal than this boy.
I hope he never becomes Captain but remains the one Arsene points to as a model for young players coming along.
1 February 2008 at 11:36 am
Ole Gunner,
What about oompar Lumpar?
1 February 2008 at 12:02 pm
[...] Gael Clichy hit the news early in the morning when it was revealed he has recieved his first call-up to the French squad by Ray Domanech (a name best avoided in Arsenal-circles). While no-one usually gets excited by such things, it has contrarily acted as a time of back-patting for the Arsenal left back who has been nothing short of sensational this season. GoodPlaya decided to very eloquently congratulate him in his latest post. [...]
1 February 2008 at 12:05 pm
Fantastic Post Goodplaya,
Clichy is indeed a gem. I have a photograph of him celebrating with the team on the pitch at WHL in 2004 with a baseball cap turned sideways on his head and a huge smile on his face.
I agree that he has never ever let the team down (except perhaps giving away the penalty at Villarreal, but that was a harsh decision) and gives total effort from the first to the ninety fifth minute. Top Man.
1 February 2008 at 12:31 pm
I still can’t believe what a masterstroke it was when Arsene pulled off that deal to off-load the wastrel Cole to Chelsea. Let me go through it again:-
Arsenal make space for the best left-back in the country to call his own - an improvement on the status quo.
Arsenal get Gallas, who is fast becoming the best club captain since Tony Adams and ia a quality defender.
Chelsea get an overhyped English full back, whose performances go into rapid decline and his off-field behaviour disgraces his club (even by their standards!)
AND……Chelsea pay us £5 million for the privilege of kicking their asses.
Arsene is a true genius!!
1 February 2008 at 12:38 pm
Couldn’t agree more with everything you said. Anyone who criticised Clichy early on is a muppet because the lad was always destined to become an Arsenal legend. But did he really make his debut in an Irish pub?
1 February 2008 at 12:49 pm
Well removed Goodplaya
1 February 2008 at 12:52 pm
Eboue’s Hand,
Not so rough !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 February 2008 at 12:53 pm
He made his debut in an Irish pub? I think that must have let Wenger down.
1 February 2008 at 12:58 pm
Carlos Ilyich Ramirez,
His debut was in an Irish pub? What on table football?
1 February 2008 at 1:26 pm
“watching him make his debut in an Irish pub”
Its all there in goodplaya’s article Blog Head
1 February 2008 at 1:29 pm
love the kid, but still think his defensive positional sense can let him down. Cole was the master at stiffling those last gasp opportunities - i think Clichy still has this to work on.
1 February 2008 at 1:30 pm
Eboue’s Hand,
Oh yes so it is. So Clichy’s better then Cole then? Is that on present form or potential wise? Or is it a little bit of rose tinted spectacles which all football fans are capable of?
Or is he actually great.
1 February 2008 at 1:40 pm
He looks to me to have a brilliant attitude towards Arsenal, and the game of football in general; something Cashley never had (or lost pretty quickly). He’s definitely better going forward than Cole, but for some reason hasn’t developed the habit he had of getting 2 or 3 goals a season.
1 February 2008 at 1:45 pm
Eboue’s Hand,
So Speaking honestly, Cole at his best, Clichy at his best, who’d be in your team if your balls depended on it?
1 February 2008 at 1:53 pm
Nigel winterburn
1 February 2008 at 2:21 pm
I think Clichy is awesome. His attacking play is still a bit off but his defensive play is perfect. Look at the stats. At one point he had a 96% success rate on tackles. Which other defender in the league past or present tops that? And he’s consistent.
1 February 2008 at 2:46 pm
GAEL 4 PRESIDENT OF THE WORLD :)
1 February 2008 at 2:48 pm
Clichy is superb Cashley Who !! Sign him up for 10 years=5 Champions League medals
1 February 2008 at 4:00 pm
gael is the best left back in the world. he is better than cuntly cashley cole. good job arsene, you just need to arslick theo now.
1 February 2008 at 4:21 pm
very nice article, gael is top notch
1 February 2008 at 4:59 pm
You know clichy’s a raving homosexual dont you?
1 February 2008 at 5:46 pm
damn thats not really Clichy right? tat gael?
1 February 2008 at 7:10 pm
Too many foreiners in Arsenal. It marvels me that Arsene is so happy when his players when they get call up to the french team. He’s not bothered with Arsenal not having any player in the English national team. Its amazing.
When in Japan why didn’t he recruit the so-called better French players to fill his Japanese team?
He came to England and in a few years sell out all English players and fill the team with so-called quality French players as if our opponents with English players are no match.
He’s sent Gibbs, Randall and almost every English prospects on loan with a view to selling them while always trying hard to keep crap foreign players. Could he have done that in France? Fielding foreign XI week in week out? Only in England are we cheated this way.
1 February 2008 at 8:10 pm
Havyn .. you’re xenophobic and short sighted.
give me committed, honest and decent blokes like clichy over english chav tossers like cole and pennaant everyday of the week!
1 February 2008 at 8:20 pm
Havyn
Wenger’s job is to win trophies for Arsenal, not build the provide players for the England team.
“When in Japan why didn’t he recruit the so-called better French players to fill his Japanese team?”
Dumb quote of the year!
As if French players like Anelka, Henry, Pires et al would give up playing champions league football for french teams, to go play in the Japanese league instead.
1 February 2008 at 9:02 pm
Diaby is crap
Aliadeire was crap
Senderos is now trying but still poor
Eboue is crap
Denilson, so much noice but nothing to write home about
Diarra, nothing exceptional
Djourou crap but still hanging in there
Arsene won’t give Gibbs, Randall, Lansburi and other English young players also a chance to develop
Eventually he will sell all of them as he sold Mat Connolly recently. But you know, he’ll still keep his crap foreign players like Senderos and Djourou at the CB position and sell any Enlish prospect. That’s why he’s brought in Haarvard from Norway. He has an agenda.
His agenda is to use Arsenal in building the French team at the expense of the England team and also provide jobs for poor French citizens. So he’s using English tax payers money to provide employment for French players.
1 February 2008 at 9:05 pm
I just see people getting jealous…
Is almunia french? cesc? rvp? hleb? ade? eduardo? toure? bendtner? rosicky?
Its normal that a french coach would have french players under him….
doesn’t rafa at pool have spanish players??
1 February 2008 at 9:07 pm
what club do u support havyn?
1 February 2008 at 9:53 pm
At least Pool developed some stars without selling them while young. Gerrard, Callagher and now also grooming Hobbs as a CB.
For Arsenal groom English players and sell and bring in young foreigners and keep them however bad they are. Aliadiere and Cygan come to mind. Now we have Djourou, Senderos, Eboue, Diaby all crap but being kept because they’re foreigners and thus meeting the taste of Arsene.
1 February 2008 at 9:54 pm
Sod off then, go support chelsea, they’re great at developing english players aren’t they?
1 February 2008 at 10:17 pm
We should rather sack Arsene, he’s using the team in developing the French national team. In fact, Arsenal has become the French national team training ground.
He’s not allowing any English players to develop. He sends them on loan and then sell them afterwards; the tactics has been in place for sometime but blind fans, you can’t see.
We’re a laughing stock now.
1 February 2008 at 10:19 pm
At least Arseman, Chelsea’s Avram Grant is not selling of young English prospects the way Arsene is doing and replacing them with crap foreign players in the name of so-called quality to hide his own agenda.
2 February 2008 at 3:38 am
[...] Gael Clichy has been called up to the French squad. It’s a great reward for a great player and Goodplaya has already said what needs to be said here. [...]
2 February 2008 at 4:15 am
We have a conspiracy theorist among us! Marvellous stuff Havyn, everybody needs a good laugh. Keep up the good work.
2 February 2008 at 4:33 am
Got his shirt this season and haven’t once regretted the decision. An absolute awesome pro and (based on the Arsenal TV Online interviews) a really nice guy too.
Congratulations Gael.
2 February 2008 at 10:27 am
He (along with Kolo) has been my fav player for quite some time now.
2 February 2008 at 10:29 am
Oh, and Haryvn is a cunt!
3 February 2008 at 2:21 pm
i to always loved gael, when he played at chelsea when we last one there, and headed the ball straight after it had conected with gudjohnsens head and stopped us going to 2-0 in like the 4th min
he was an arsenal legend then on
3 February 2008 at 8:57 pm
clichy deserves this call up more than anybody else; he not only is a perfect example of what football should be about attitude wise, but he also plays the game the way we, and fans of every team across the globe, love to see it played, constant energetic, attack minded brilliance. Secondly. Harvyn, i have experienced first hand Arsene’s contribution to english football, and believe me it outstrips anything mourinho, robson, alladyce or ferguson have achieved in the last 10 years. i grew up a few doors away from justin and gavin hoyte, played in the same football team and went to the same schools, except i ended up at millwall. Now if you speak to these young men you will realise arsene doesn’t play people who are not good enough or don’t have the correct attitude. connolly is a very good reader of the game and a fantastic leader, but unfortunately has v. v. little bravery. in terms of ability he is probably on par with senderos but he is nowhere near as passionate or brave (stupid?) as senderos (how many time has that man had blood pouring from his face now?). also diaby is crap? did you not see the rockets that man has released from his foot so often this and last season? or the fantastic tackles he regularly makes. yes he needs work on his game, just like petit (tall but shit in the air), vieira (couldn’t control fuck all when he arrived) and henry (was just pretty average) did at a young age too. wenger has trained up, nurtured and shared around great young english talent for years (bentley, pennant, kuffour, smith, barrett (british) etc), so to say he doesnt contribute is ludicrous. look at united, they have as many players through their youth system playing in various prem clubs as we have, so do they really contribute more? also since the famous class of 92′ when have united produced a decent youth team player, spector was the only decent english speaking one and even he was a fuckin yank. west ham got lucky and produced a load of decent talent as one time too, but noble is the only notable player to have been produced since lamps, rio etc. wenger uses foreign players purely because the only thing english players USED TO have in common was the ‘fighting spirit’, nowadays they do not have that, so if they are as good as the average foreign player who does have a bit flair, european experience and usually a superior football knowledge then no football fan can begrudge him his choice of lineup.
ps so fuck you
4 February 2008 at 3:30 am
well.i think cael clichy…as really make me to feel better ,i thougth is going to be add on aresnal when cloe lelf…but i can now still the clichy is even better than cloe…anytime i seen him am allways happy…clichy is the best 3 in the world…………thank you
tinpin
4 February 2008 at 8:06 pm
Well done Gael! Before I left The mighty Arsenal Arsene said to me that the reason he was selling me was because he had a much better option at left back, you and he thought that I was better off pursuing my career at a lower level with all the other overpaid talentless turds at chelsea, Thank you for all that you taught me about being a world class left back and a good professional, pity I forgot it all.

Wow,nice comments.Wats wrong with guys criticising Wenger for buying foreign talent?show me a decent English talent and Wenger will obviously buy him otherwise Walcott wouldnt be a Gunner.
And also about fielding foreign xi,Inter milan has used an 11 without an Italian on Numerous occassions,Real Madrid have countable Spaniads,Barcelona have countable Italians plus so many other clubs.Stop blaming Wenger for the lack of talent in Englang.Derby,Sunderland,Wigan etc all have squads full of English players but where are they on the table or are they even on the English national team?So much for grooming English talent.
We love u wenger.Nice Job.
