Injured Flamini subbed in France A game
MATHIEU Flamini was subbed 15 minutes into France A’s 0-0 draw with Congo tonight with an injured right knee.
No word, as far as I can see, on how serious it is.
Clichy and Sagna played the whole game, Diaby was an unused sub. William Gallas should be involved with the France first team tomorrow night against Spain in Malaga.

Damn!
5 February 2008 at 9:33 pm
this is what I’ve feared all season. our only option is now a disinterested, out of shape, over-the-hill gilberto. bye bye title chances!
damn it! I wish we had that whingy git, diarra!
5 February 2008 at 9:36 pm
gilberto r u serious, id rather play denilson and i hope wenger does too
5 February 2008 at 9:41 pm
Not even a proper international game?
5 February 2008 at 9:44 pm
Setanta says its his ankle and its not serious
5 February 2008 at 9:46 pm
I’ll wait for official confirmation since I’ve also heard it’s his thigh! Maybe he’ll make a miraculous recovery like all the Milan players!
5 February 2008 at 9:47 pm
I think I would like to see Diaby have a go next to Fabregas, not the Gilbertosaurus with RVP back and Rosicky, Walcott, Hleb or Dudu we can play those on the wings.
5 February 2008 at 9:49 pm
oh no hope he can come back befor the milan game.
milans gattuso is out so is arsenals gattuso best defensive midfielder in the prem at the moment

If FLAMINI is out for a bit, then I do not like the ide aof a DIABY and CESC central midfield at all. It offers too little defensively. I would prefer that DJOUROU eventually develops as our defensive, or rather, make that “tackling” backup for FLAMINI. Yet as he is injured, I would use SAGNA next to CESC, and HOYTE as right back. DENILSON is not quite physically ready yet, and he would be better next to FLAMINI rather than risked next CESC because of this.
5 February 2008 at 9:55 pm
i hope he recovered before the F.A 5TH round against our Oldest rival, get well soon mat.
5 February 2008 at 10:18 pm
Here’s how it looks:
Gilberto: over the hill and ineffective
Denilson: injured, still too young, not purely a defensive midfielder
Diaby: an ATTACKING midfielder. CAN’T be paired with fabregas.
Conclusion: We’re boned without flamini. I know that wenger couldn’t abide having a complainer like diarra in the locker room, but the decision to sell him could seriously cost us the title…
P.S. who knew at the beginning of the season that we would be this reliant on the flamster?
5 February 2008 at 10:19 pm
Another pointless game, another needless injury. When will international friendlies in mid-season be abolished? Nobody wants them.
5 February 2008 at 10:23 pm
Sky Sports describes this encounter as “a game of few chances that lacked genuine excitement.” Oh wow, sounds better than sex… And now there’s a real chance we’ll be without one of our best players. Makes you want to pray for a meterorite to fall on FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich.
5 February 2008 at 10:33 pm
everyone forgotten Alex Song who has been an absolute star for Cameroon in the African Cup of nations if any of you are watching…
player of the tournament so far and he is playing in the “defensive midfielder” role…
Flamini will be fit… if not Gilberto is more than able of filling in and so is Song.
5 February 2008 at 10:34 pm

5 February 2008 at 11:11 pm
OUR NEXT GAME IS AGAINST BLACBURN ON MONDAY, LETS HOPE CAMEROON ARE GOING OUT ON SEMIS THAT MEANS ALEX SONG WILL BE AVAILABLE. DO U PEOPLE KNOW THAT FLAMSTER WILL BE OKAY BY MONDAY SO DONT U WORRY. OR TAKE IT DIS WAY WE BEAT BLACKBURN IN CARLING CUP 3-2 SO NOT GET THEM THE SAME TEAM + GALLAS, FABREGAS AND ADE. ROSICKY WILL BE BACK THE WE REST HLEB,EDUARDO,SAGNA
5 February 2008 at 11:15 pm
What are tomorrows blogs going to be called?
“Fabrio Cappello’s waiting talking Italian” (bollocks more like) having another pop at the lack of english players in the EPL.
Songs got more games away yet he made the goal to go through.
Where can Diaby play he has a new contract he cannot play on the left, he cannot play in the middle Is Arsene sending him out as a Vieira lookalike!
5 February 2008 at 11:25 pm
Gilberto is not capable of filling in for anyone. He should have been sold in the window . If there was one player responsible for the debacle in the 2 games against the scum it was Gilberto Silva …unable to get up & down the pitch, constantly giving the ball away & ineffective in the tackle this player should never be allowed to play for Arsenal again HE IS A TOTAL LIABILITY. If the Flamster is out for a couple of games PLEASE ARSENE ANYONE EXCEPT GILBERTO HE WILL COST US THE TITLE.
6 February 2008 at 12:08 am
Song will be out until the ACN is over. Even if he loses in the Semis, he will play in the 3rd place game.
6 February 2008 at 1:19 am
we need to use a player that wenger believes in since hes the man who brought us this far
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To tunadog:
You can’t solely blame the defear to the Spuds on Gilberto. Most, if not all, of the starting 11 seemed to want to take it easy for some reason, and credit to Spuds, as much as I hate them, they played well. You don’t win 5-1, especially against Arsenal, without doing something right.
And also, maybe this is chance that Gilberto needs. Look at Senderos, when Toure left for the ACN, he’s been playing a lot better since. So maybe a little pressure is all Gilberto needs; look at when he was made captain last season.
6 February 2008 at 9:37 am
Gilberto was player of the season last year. His catastrophic loss of form is due to a self-confidence nosedive after being snubbed for the captaincy and dropped from the side. As it happens both decisions have proved to be correct (Gallas is an excellent captain and Flamini is undroppable). But you can understand Gilberto’s dismay.
6 February 2008 at 2:02 pm
Ok guys, I can see you’re stressing so i’ll let you in on a little secret I know. I know the REAL reason why Gilberto has lost his form so badly this season, and I think you’ll be extremely interedted to hear this being Arsenal fans and caring for the club as you do.
The reason Gilberto has lost his form is because he is scared of rats. Eduardo’s arrival has played havoc with Gilberto’s training as it means he cant train with the rest of the team. When De Silva comoes on the pitch - Gilberto shits his pants - then gives the ball away. My source tells me Wenger is currently looking into psychological treatment, he’s bought Gilberto a copy of Paul Mckenna’s new book ‘Dont let the furry little fuckers control you’

I know Goodplaya’s said that he finds Blog Head’s comments amusing, but I for one am tired of his seemingly surreal comments and heartily wish he would f*** off and ply his cobblers on another website.
6 February 2008 at 3:54 pm
Exiled, I disagree. Gilberto does not lack self-confidence. He lacks playing time. It is incredibly difficult to just step on the field after not playing for weeks and perform. This is especially the case at DM, where you need to have sixth sense about where your teammates are likely to be and how a play is developing.
If he gets a run of games he will be very effective again. The fact that he runs less than Flamini would require some re-adjustment from the other players, but I am convinced that the drop-off for the team as a whole will be minimal.
6 February 2008 at 4:54 pm
Gilberto has got no speed to match what Flamster has introduced to the midfield holding role.no matter how many games you’ll give the guy no matter how his confidence builds it will not add an extra yard(or two which i feel he needs)so that will mean instead of running forward to stop attcks he will naturally wait for them and any mistake near the 18-yard box is worse than in the midle of the park
Gilberto will no longer fir into the team his lost the main thing that makes the team tick which is speed and it has become really vital in the position he plays in,with Gilberto in the team Cesc,Hleb n Rosicky have to curb most of their attacking prowess as compared to if it was Flamster playing i cant believe this but i prefer Song to Berto ANYDAY
6 February 2008 at 5:58 pm
You all worry far too much. Take a pill. Don’t panic. Just chill.
6 February 2008 at 8:07 pm
Flamster out. No problems. Play Kolo in DM position. He started his career there dont forget. Senderos keeps his place at CM. That would be make us defensively awesome and give us some real steel in midfield. Kolo likes going forward as well
6 February 2008 at 8:32 pm
geard that kaka and pato both not avalailable for 1st leg at emirates…sweet!
6 February 2008 at 8:37 pm
cant afford to have gilberto back in the side the whole bullying tag will resurface again, flamini’s added aggression and mobility in the side two of gilberto’s biggest flaws.
we only started getting bullied when vieira left, we had a young cesc not physically strong enough at the time, and gilberto who basically cant tackle, result? teams were going right through us.
that all changed once flamini stepped up to the mark, gilberto never been a top player, in the invincibles season he had top quality players around him and he was’nt exposed as much, fair play to him he was excellent last season but the same old problem occurred still getting outmuscled in certain matches.
wenger knew this so he bought diarra and took the captainacy of him but he never expected flamini to play out of his skin which made the problem with diarra, gilberto should have went before diarra now we have the problem with flamini injured.
i agree with tunadog if gilberto is back in were in trouble just look at the games when he’s been involved this season no power in the central midfield area its suicidal, please arsene anyone but him.

vlc gooner - thanks for your comment. You may be right. But I wonder why a World cup winner and captain of Brazil absolutely needs a few games to build up to anything approaching adequate form. His distribution is erratic, his positional sense is suspect, his pace is limited and his tackling looks half-hearted. I think there must be something up with his mental focus and self-belief.
Gorm - amen to that.

Exiled,
Dont forget his ears, there much too big for his head. And those boots………………
7 February 2008 at 9:03 pm
Flamini and Gilberto are both holding midfielders who play in different ways. Gilberto ‘just’ holds keeping it simple with his passing whilst retaining his holding position in front of the defence. Flamini plays a more box to box game albeit limited by his midfield partner. He actively hunts the ball and aims to occasionally get in on plays with late runs into the box. At present this suits our game with his hunting the ball down quicker and springing our offence in life with Hleb and Cesc in particular able to make the ‘right’ decisions added to our quick passing, with Gilberto it’s a slower paced game which still makes good use of our quick passing and great decision making by our playmakers Cesc and Hleb but is less pressureized for the opponent allowing them to get more men behind the ball quicker thus resulting in more passes by us. . Either way it still works but with Flamini it result in more pressure for our opponents.
7 February 2008 at 9:07 pm
Wenger put Kolo into defence based on Keown’s recommendation and his own observation. He decide that his (Kolo’s) decision making wasn’t quite good enough for an attacking player and he didn’t quite have the stamina for central midfield. Yeah I know sounds crazy doesn’t it but stats don’t lie and that’s what he (Wenger) based his judgement on.

Ortice, You mean in midfield he was shit?
