Words fail me

BY now you have probably read about Jeremie Aliadiere getting an extra one game ban for frivolously appealing his weekend finger flick sending-off. Words fail me.

But there is a very simple way to clear up all the current absurdity:

Referees should continue to give out yellow and red cards as they see fit. But the only purpose of the cards should be to send a player from the field or warn him he risks being sent from the field. They should not infer any kind of ban.

Then, after the game, the referee should sit through a video of the game and decide which incidents, if any, merit disciplinary sanction. And rather than the current situation where the only choice is one between a three game ban or nothing, sanctions ranging from disciplinary points through to well beyond three games could be handed out.

So, Aliadiere could get either a few disciplinary points or at most a one game ban. And so too would the equally guilty Mascherano. That Gallas kick at Old Trafford last week (which was not, as many would have you believe, anything approaching GBH), would merit either one or two games out.

And just to show this is not a party political point, Michael Ball would miss 30 games for this:

In the currently utterly warped system, he missed just three.

And depending on what universe you reside in, Martin Taylor could receive anything from nothing to eight games.

Crucially, referees would be able to punish incidents they missed altogether, INCLUDING DIVING.

The proposal is easy to implement, would not slow the game down at all and should clean it up a fair bit.

So don’t expect to see it any time soon.

who cares, football in this country is doomed, too many hangers on, too many parasites in high places just taking the cheques and not willing to do anything to improve the game… why has no-one at the FA or wherever got the balls to take the game by the sruff of the neck and SORT IT !! thats why there are so few sides who play football these days, they have learnt they can get better results by just stopping the other side play and rely on getting a lucky goal or sympathetic/crap referee. EPL is doomed, mark my words.

  2. jlsgooner Says:

Too much common sense for the FA, good idea though.

  3. Michael Says:

Are you joking? This is way too complicated for the FA to implement.

  4. Mishari Says:

The only problem with that is that it would still be based on a referee’s subjective opinion, and different referees might see the same incident differently, therefore it should be a single panel who look at ALL the video evidence of ALL the games at once.

Furthermore, that would still not help change the WRONG decision to award that ridiculous penalty, which could very well change the outcome of the title race.

  5. segujja Says:

So aliadiere gets 4 games and what will taylor get………………..?????????? we are waiting and the panel isnt giving us anything…Taylor should be out for as long as Edu is out….That thug

  6. 'holic Says:

Excellent idea. Therefore won’t get off the ground. Worth putting it to the FA though, just so you can weep in despair at the response.

  7. Pomp Says:

Why would you expect justice & fairness from any of the authorities, Fifa - Uefa or FA?

It has never happened in my 50 years.

Too practical an idea for them Goodplaya.

  8. Blog Head Says:

Getting an extra game ban for appealing a decision that someone only saw once is ridiculous

  9. Sniff Says:

Incidents that are missed by referees are already subject to post match video based punishments.

AW has spoken of the danger of this kind of retrospective punishment becoming a witch hunt.

I agree with Goodplaya’s suggestion that punishments should be more flexible than the current archaic system. There are a variety of sports that have instituted such a system.

Like you said, “It would clean up the game and not waste time, thus will never be implemented”

WE all know the FA, PL, UEAFA and FIFA are just a bunch of politicos that only care about their pockets and not the game we all love

    Great post today

Good playa my man… What a fucking top shout!!

    I rate this idea, extremely…

Feel free to check out my opinion on the matter bro.. Peace

    Gunner 8,

Yes I did. Was a great day. Every teams got to start somewhere havent’t they? Beating Chelsea at the new wembley was enough of a prize in itself, you should have seen there faces

aqree with your idea goodplaya. video refs too. look at rugby - mike the ref up (swearing etc would soon disappear if there was a live TV audience, the sponsors would see to that), move the ball 10 yards forward for dissent (and actually use the rule), only the captain can talk to the ref, and stop the game for the video ref when the ref’s not sure. Rugby also shows that waiting for the video ref decision actually heightens the drama and tension. Even if it is does “slow the game down” as our moronic TV pundits always say, then surely that’s no bad thing - our games are too hectic anyway. Then as you say, punishments can be meted out afterwards by the ref or on his recomendation, including for simulation.
So that’s that cleared up. Now to persuade that wonderfully honest, clever, finger on the pulse Anglophile Mr Blatter. Oh..

  15. McGooner Says:

Goodplaya - Just wanted to say that I think your idea has real merit, it is borderline genius as it is really difficult see any downsides (except maybe the trial by press reaction) but maybe if these decisions are generally made before MotD it could be ok!

You need to get phoning 606. Or, even better, end a letter to the F.A.

I sent them aone ater that 3-3 draw at Leicester that saw them equalise in the 6th minute of extra time after no injuries and routine substitutions. The following season extra time started to be signalled on electronic boards. It was all thanks to me I’m sure.

  17. Blog Head Says:

    Exiled,

No, I actually went up there and spoke to Barwick about that exact same problem. Barwick told me to go fuck myself so I took a shit on top of his car. I kept staging these dirty, dirty protests for about two weeks before the Law got me. Then the following season they started signalling on electronic boards as you said. So actually, It was all down to me.

    Your welcome.

Great idea playa. On a more serious note glad to see blog head back on form and being his usual rude self. He’d posted two comments that were actally sensible and didn’t contain any profanities. I like you better bloggy when you are totally inane and offensive. You are a comedy great.

  19. iceman10 Says:

Gotta say that’s a really good idea, but can’t see the FA implement it. They’d rather be thinking of money making schemes like raking in millions having the Prem play abroad…

  20. PRN Says:

    Great Idea!

Mishari - the more time u have to look at an incidnet u would hope that the finding/punishmant would be one that is merited. I would suggest that all the officials who were at the match should decide the fate of the player as u usually get a fairer decision with a group.

    God Bless!

  21. 1979gooner Says:

    well said,

it would be so simple and easy, so there’s no chance of it happening!

  22. Steve Says:

The problem is that the FA are so sensitive about criticism of refs they will never rescind a red or even go against a ref’s decision, however wrong it may be unless it is a case of mistaken identity. And how often is it that there is mistaken identity?
