Come to see Eboue, you’ve only come to see Eboue

I’VE a very hectic start to the day, so the match report and playa ratings that I’ve nearly pulled together will have to wait for now. They will hopefully be up around lunchtime and if not, tonight.

Needless to say, it was much improved on Saturday.

And people have started chanting: “Come to see Eboue, you’ve only come to see Eboue”.

Which made me smile.

  1. Bernard Says:

I was annoyed last night to hear Eboue booed by fans behind us in the East Lower, when he came on.

Manny is an immature little bugger and has frustrated the hell out of me as much as any Gooner. I also don’t think any of us expected to start the season with him installed at centre mid.

However I’m assuming Eboue’s disparaging wave of the hand was a reaction to the booing, which wasn’t loud but with the atmosphere last night relatively quiet when the Dutch fans weren’t singing, was unmistakeable.

Personally I don’t agree with booing anyone playing in red & white but some seem to think that it’s a right which comes with the price of their ticket. Yet to give someone stick before they’ve kicked a ball is hardly going to encourage them work harder to win us over

We all saw last night what a difference a Cesc makes and how disjointed we were once he left the field. But the one thing you can’t blame Eboue for is not being Fabregas. It’s certainly not “support” as I know it!

  2. lets go gunners,do that to N.castle Says:

go gunners, more of that on newcastle

  3. Rob Moir Says:

Bernard: Let me start by saying I don’t agree with booing any of our players out there on the pitch.

However, while it isn’t Eboue’s fault that he’s not Cesc and that he’s being forced to play centre-midfield, it *is* his fault that he’s a play-acting cheating little twat who makes me embarassed to support the team at times.

  4. STONE Says:

Yes Eboue dives like a dolphin but booing your own player makes you 10 times a bad supporter than he is a bad player, and i must say that i’m happy that we have Eboue in our squad bcause he can cover for us in many positions when injury prone “stars” are out!!

  5. Richard Says:

Bobby used to go down a little easily, so did Reyes. Dont remember them getting booed. Have you ever heard the scousers booing Gerrard?

Eboue has played well so far this season and deserves our support.

  6. Jolly Says:

Anyone who boo’s our players is an idiot.

We should all get behind anyone wearing the red n’ white.
Fair enough, slag them in the pub before the game, but do you think booing them is going to help them become better players for Arsenal?
Do you think booing them is going to help us win football matches?

  7. Cesc Says:

    Jolly you are an idiot.

You seem to be a recent ‘win at all costs’ football fan. If you want a team full of diving, arrogant, cheating prima-donna’s like Eboue then your welcome to it - but genuine Arsenal fans feel disgusted when they see a player embarassing the arsenal badge. They therefore show their displeasure by booing his appalling behaviour which will eventually get through to Eboue and prevent his awful antics.

I suppose you’d like Ashley Cole back wouldn’t you - he might help us win football matches but he is a c**t which is a far more important point…

  8. Frichie Says:

Its Eboue’s fault for being Eboue, and Wengers fault for seeing something in him that none of us see. I think he has the talent and the athleticism to be a goodplaya, but seriously he had a few wires loose, cos all it takes is a touch from the opposition and he loses his head. I wouldnt boo him at a game tho! Save that for the opposition

  9. Strip Tees Says:

Without wishing to be churlish after a satisfying and decisive win last night, FC Twente are the worst team I have seen in the Champions’ League.

They had the technical ability of a League 1 side and the fight of a team having to play a meaningless league game before a Cup Final.

*All* divers and cheats should be booed by the paying public, whoever they play for. They are defacing the game we love and should not be allowed to think it’s OK if they get away with it.

  10. gazzap Says:

I dont like diving as much as the next man but booing an arsenal player is disgraceful. all it will do is make him feel worse and play worse and it will p*ss off the other fans around you, who cannot stand it. it may even lead to some fans standing up for Eboue and singing his name, as we saw recently with Ade after he was booed.
Wenger will pick the players he wants, booing an Arsenal player while he is playing in the red and white is unacceptable.
Eboue did NOT dive last night. If you are going to boo him at least do it at the moment he has dived to show your displeasure to that single act. Has eboue dived this season?

  11. SilentGooner Says:

    Cesc

    YOU are an idiot.
You sound like a true fascist, “embarassing the arsenal badge”? Have you seen Eboue dive this season? Claiming that booing will make him stop is just stupid and in my opinion you would only boo one of your own players if you had the IQ of a monkey. You people just make me sick…

  12. fran Says:

I can understand being quiet to ‘voice’ disapproval, but booing our own players won’t help our results. I’ve slagged Ebuoe but he’s got something to offer and he’s a human being. I have cracked wise on all our players but never booed.

  13. Goodplaya Says:

I don’t even think he really got that many boos.

I think a few of them were for his name (like we used to with Kanu), a few of them were because people didn’t want Nasri to come off and maybe a very few were actually booing.

There was certainly no booing that I heard when he was on the ball at any point. And the song was sung very, very lightheartedly.

  14. Good to be a GOONAH!! Says:

THATS RIGHT CLICHY…. ta mate… IF you score 15 or 20 goals by December… you’ll be embraced again, Ade…

“I think the big thing is to feel that you are wanted from your club, your manager, your team-mates and the fans. Ade is a big, big player and last year he showed he has the quality to be one of the best in Europe. So we just have to be behind him.

“It is difficult, of course for the fans, but I am sure if he starts scoring goals and in December is on 15 or 20 goals, everything will be fine

  15. daymee Says:

I don’t think it’s right to read too much into this game. What matters is the spirit in that camp and the result must have surely helped.

I don’t expect a perfect team at this time of the season and it is better for the team not to peak too soon IMO. The reaction from fans is indicative of their frustration at the moment. I can understand if fans want to see right players for the respective positions but to boo is simply not the answer. I’m sure this win should stop that now.
Eboue is a player that is becoming unliked at Arsenal and I feel fans are holding him and Denilson responsible for that performance. I personally believe Eboue has strength and should be on the bench, not a starting 11. He can surely bring in more strength in the second half. That said.

    On the Twente Match:

    ALMUNIA:
Didn’t have much to do. I hope it was just boredom and heroism that made him come out the way he did in the second half (flapping at nothing). That was his only gaffe all game. Never had a shot to save.

    SAGNA:
Crisp, sharp, good concentration. Can’t really fault him in a game that he had very little to do. This guy is one of Arsenal’s uncelebrated stars. He overlapped very intelligently when Eboue was muscled off the ball in the second half. Excellent crossing of the ball. This is a player you don’t want to see get injured. I hope he plays all season

    DJOUROU:
I like his eyes for goal, always quick to react. Sharp instincts. Whilst I won’t read too much into his performance in this game, I must say he played very well. His confidence is increasing and this type of defender is a confidence defender. He will get better game after game. He was in the middle of breaking up any threat Twente was forming last night and put in a solid performance. He shouldn’t have been dropped against Fulham. Competes for the high balls, which is good to see.
    Not to be dropped.

    GALLAS:
Looked more determined, commanding his area well. I picked up on a moment when he was indecisive facing the left side of goal and Elia ran through him. Gallas is a good defender but needs a gladiator as a partner. He’s very similar to Toure and Wenger will have to be very brave if we want a partnership going in the CB area. Gallas’ experience and forward runs were good and he deserved his goal, considering his effort.

    CLICHY:
A defender I’m really falling in love with right now. He defended very well and broke down any surging runs from his channel. Clichy was confident and was for me, ran Walcott close for MOTM. I hope this guy never gets injured too. With him and Sagna in defence, problems are half solved. My question is can he put in a performance like this all season? I really like him

    FABREGAS:
I dont need to say much about him. In a class of his own. Does the easy things, very calm. Strong engine. Good signs and hope for this season. Welcome back Cesc.

    DENILSON:
A lot has been said about Denilson. I think it is a tad unfair to criticise him as I think he is huffing and puffing and using all his energy. But the truth is, Denilson is not a DM. Simple. He cannot handle the pressure. Apart from his direction-less passing and placement of the ball, it was obvious last night that his positioning skill is really really below what is required as a DM. He needs to be brought up slowly and doesn’t need this pressure.
I like his determination to make it at Arsenal and that might just give him the edge. Unfortunately I don’t see him in Arsenal’s 11 in big games.

    WALCOTT:
Played out of his skin. Simply sensational. I’m happy to see the hunger in him. Yesterday he just wanted to make a mark on the game and he definately did. Alan Hansen will surely think about amking comments about Walcott now. His searing pace is simply phenomenal. He single-handedly maintained the tempo on the opposition. Man of the Match (MOTM) for me.

    NASRI:
Signs are showing that this guy will be Cesc’s sidekick this season. They link up really well. I can’t say much about this guy. Just what we need.

    VAN PERSIE:
I must say that (Tiote) made his life hell last night. Robin isn’t in form at the moment. But I think that’s a good thing because I don’t want everyone peaking now. I prefer him getting into form closer to the second part of the season. Good assist for Nasri’s goal. Otherwise he was on a war mission with Tiote, making him play deep in midfield.

    BENDTNER:
Too many touches. Not composed enough infront of goal and I’m not fooled by his eventual goal. But I believe he’ll get better. The more games he plays the better. I must say though, that he linked play very well.

    ADEBAYOR:
Looks rusty and lacking confidence at the mo. He needs more time on the bench with Toure. He needs to fight for his shirt. He can only get better with competition.

    SONG:
Put no foot wrong. Calm on the ball

    EBOUE:
Played well. Good runs. I think he will be a good squad player this season. But he is one to sit on the bench for Walcott to score at least 12 goals this season.

In conclusion, I must say that it was obvious Wenger had given the players a good lashing. The loss to Fulham may be a good thing. The Premier League is different and Arsenal need an enforcer in there. Alex Song, I think will struggle to play the enforcer role, although I think he’s the best candidate for the DM role if (and that’s a big IF) another signing does not materialise. But Arsenal need two players in midfield not one. I’m sure this has been said and is now a broken record. Whatever happened about Inler I think went bad. That’s a shame. But, Wenger has a few days to decide whether we’ll celebrate a trophy this season or get very very close again. With what we have now, I think we will be just short. Truth be told.

  16. White Ox Says:

For me I think the most frustrating thing with Eboue is there really is a footballer in there. You just wish a Keown or a Dixon could take him aside and tell him to cut out all the histrionics and bullshit and then he could have the Arsenal career they had, I mean I love those two to death but Eboue has so much more talent than them it’s a crying shame really.

Sadly I don’t really think Eboue would listen to or respect such players. And it may be a bit of a culture problem at Arsenal. Tey say Phil refused to listen or acknowledge Martin Keown when he was trying to help. I know you should only believe half of what you hear and half of that again, but if it’s true then I’m not sure I’ll really miss Phil. Let’s hope it’s not a problem that permeates throughout the club.

And oh yeah, I’ve awoken to no more signings. What a surprise.

  17. Saint Dennis Says:

Just thinking, watch the match again. And this time, dont mistake Denilson for Theo, Nasri or the Cesc. Really, was he our best player?

  18. Luke Says:

    Hi Goodplaya

Goodplaya quotes: Aaron Ramsey, “a very good player’

    http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/-we-were-organised-disciplined-and-focused-

    On central midfield…

“I think Denilson had a good game tonight. We have as well Aaron Ramsey - for me he will be a very good player - and we have Alex Song and we have Abou Diaby. Even Nasri can play central but we have to see.”

  19. Luke Says:

From the same webpage, on Vela, “a top class player”

    On Vela’s globetrotting…

“We don’t see Vela a lot because he goes to Mexico last week and then goes again next week to Jamaica to play two games. Then he will come back a bit late for the game we play away. But I am confident he will play an important part in the season, but at the moment he is away. He is a top class player.”

  20. Luke Says:

If everyone else is right that Denilson didn’t have a good game and Wenger said what he said (“I think Denilson had a good game tonight.”), then Wenger must be blind?
